Features We Love

The 2024 model continues the fourth-generation design before major changes expected for the 2025 model year.

  • Elite Car Seat Setup: This is one of the best car seat configurations in a full-size SUV. You get lower anchors and tether anchors in the second row (including the middle seat with the bench), plus two sets of lower anchors and three tether anchors in the third row. Not all competitors offer lower anchors back there, so this flexibility is huge for growing families.
  • Truly Spacious Third Row: The third row is actually adult-friendly. There’s real legroom, ceiling vents, USB ports on both sides, multiple cupholders, and even reclining seats. It doesn’t feel like a punishment to sit back there.
  • Massive Cargo & Storage Space: Even the regular wheelbase version offers impressive trunk space, and the Expedition Max adds 12 extra inches just to the cargo area. Power-folding seats, huge door cubbies, and an oversized center console make this a storage dream.

Car Mom Review

The Exterior

Exterior: Big, Muscular, and Confident

The Expedition has a classic, no-nonsense look. It’s muscular, a little sporty, and definitely more truck-inspired than your typical “mom SUV.”

  • Bold Ford grille
  • Strong, sharp beltline
  • Available power-deploying running boards
  • Chrome roof rails
  • Clean, simple rear design

It’s boxy — but that’s exactly how you get this much interior space. Nothing about it feels over-designed or flashy. It just looks strong.

Big, muscular and confident!

First Row

Driver’s Seat: Massive Storage & Some Honest Tech Feedback

Let’s start with the good.

  • Completely digital dash
  • Great visibility
  • Huge center console
  • Four cupholders within reach
  • Double glove box (my favorite mom hack)
  • Massive door cubbies

The center console is square, wide, and high enough to comfortably rest your arm during long drives. I’ve done Zoom meetings in there. I’ve eaten car lunches in there. It’s functional.

I am not a huge fan of the "iPad" style screen. I'd much prefer buttons and knobs!

The biggest frustration? Climate control being inside the screen. Adjusting temperature takes multiple taps, and when the screen glitches, you lose access to your air.

Second Row

Second Row: Team Bench Forever

This bench is chef’s kiss.

  • Massive legroom
  • Heated outboard seats (trim specific)
  • USB-A & USB-C
  • Ceiling vents (huge for rear-facing kids)
  • Separate seat tracks for each position

And because the seats move independently, I can tilt one side for third-row access without disrupting the others.

Captain’s chairs are cute — but bench flexibility wins for me.

Car Seat Set Up:

This is where the Expedition absolutely wins.

With the bench seat:

  • Lower anchors in all three second-row seats
  • Tether anchors in all three second-row seats
  • Lower anchors in both third-row outboard seats
  • Tether anchors across the third row

That’s five full sets of lower anchors and six tether anchors in an eight-passenger SUV.

It also features a car-seat-friendly tilt. If your seat is installed using LATCH, the seat can tilt and slide forward without uninstalling the car seat. That makes third-row access so much easier.

Rear-facing car seats? No problem. There is tons of clearance.

Third Row

Third Row: Truly Adult-Friendly

This is where the Expedition separates itself.

The third row:

  • Fits three passengers
  • Has real legroom
  • Includes ceiling vents
  • Has USB ports on both sides
  • Features multiple cupholders

And the seats recline.

Yes — recline.

Even with the second row pushed back, I still had room. With the second row moved forward slightly, I could comfortably sit back there as a full-size adult.

No items found.

Trunk

Cargo Space: Regular vs Max

The Expedition comes in two sizes:

  • Regular
  • Expedition Max (12 inches longer — all added to cargo space)

Even the regular version impressed me. I was able to fit a stroller behind the third row. Fold the seats down (power-folding, by the way), and you’re looking at a massive cargo area.

You can even fold the second-row seats from the trunk.

Safety

The 2024 Ford Expedition comes standard with Ford Co-Pilot360 across all trim levels, which means you’re getting key safety features like automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-keeping assist right out of the gate.

Loved this car for so many reasons! But this particular year has come with some quirky issues — the foot gates get stuck and won’t go down all the time. And the engine turns over and makes the car lurch when I’m stopped before I hit the gas again. I think these issues are perhaps specific to the year I have though. It’s functioned well for our family and the max has allowed for plenty of space for roadtrips!

Rented a 2022 XLT for a roadtrip. It was not the extended version and so the trunk space was not sufficient for a family of 5. We had to use the extra space inside the car for the extra luggage. However, it drove great and was a smooth ride. I really liked it. Would rent again but would opt for the extended version with extra trunk space.

I couldn’t love this vehicle any more than I already do! ❤️ The Ford Expedition Max has truly been the perfect vehicle for our family. I absolutely love the body style, the three-across bench in the second row, and just how incredibly comfortable it is. The amount of space is a game changer, especially with three kids. There’s plenty of room for everyone without feeling cramped, and the Max gives us all the cargo space we could possibly need. Whether we’re loading up for a weekend away, packing the stroller and all the kids’ things, or taking a long road trip, there is room for it all (Even our 110 lb Golden Retriever 🐕)! And speaking of road trips—the comfort is one of my favorite things about it. The spacious interior, comfortable seating, smooth ride, and extra legroom make long drives so much easier. I love that the kids have room, while we still have plenty of space for luggage and everything else we inevitably bring along. I also love that it feels like a big family SUV without sacrificing style. It’s roomy and practical, but still looks sleek and drives so nicely. After having three kids, I’ve become all about finding something that makes everyday life easier, and this vehicle checks every box for us. The Ford Expedition Max has the space, comfort, functionality, and road-trip capability our family needs—and I genuinely don’t know how I’d go back to anything smaller! 🤍

We purchased a 2023 Ford expedition almost a year ago. Before that I drove an 2021 expedition max. I really love the 2023 Ford expedition. I love the sporty look of the exterior, and the quality and look of the interior as well. We have the stealth package, which I absolutely love. If you’re looking for tons of trunk space, you would definitely want to get the expedition max, as the regular expedition has very little trunk space when the third row is up. I always have my second and third row up because I have four kids. The only way we make it work is because my husband now drives our expedition max and when we are all together as a family, we always take the max which provides plenty of trunk space and room for everyone. It’s a very nice ride, and the screen is huge which I love. Things I don’t love: I wish the climate control had actual buttons and wasn’t controlled from the screen. I’ve also noticed that the transmission can be very jerky? Which I have read can be a common thing with the expedition. I’ve had it looked at, and we haven’t had any other issues, but I believe it’s something with the technology behind the transmission? Overall, I love this car.

My Ford Expedition is the best mom car! It’s perfect for my 3 kids and our dogs love it too! We have room for everything and everyone. I feel very safe driving it and it is easy to park for how large it is. The blue cruise is a nice tool for long drives. The light grey seats are easy to wipe clean and make the space feel clean, light, and roomy. Overall, this is a great family car!

This is a Fantastic car for our family. We have the buckets seats and our kids can move around freely and easily between them for any school/sports pick up and drop off. It’s very easy to install a car seat in any of 2nd or 3rd row seats. There is not a whole lot I do not like about the car.

Took Kelly’s advice on the 3 across in the second row. Absolutely no regrets. 3rd row is also very comfortable for an adult, surprisingly.

FUNCTIONAL. That’s what sold me on the Expedition ultimately! We needed more room, mainly in the middle row. But, I couldn’t sacrifice cargo area and wanted more everyday storage space. After considering all options, the Expedition came out on top. I chose the Tremor edition since I was used to an off-road vehicle (Lexus LX). We love how it drives and how extremely functional and comfortable it is for our family!

I love this vehicle! Very roomy in the driver and passenger seats. Lots of usable cup holders. Great leg room in the second and third row, adjustable since the second row captain's chairs are on sliders. Great trunk space.

I absolutely love my 2020 expedition. This model will be my forever model! We are a family of five, with three kids in car seat seats. There’s a lot of legroom for my husband who is 6’3. I will say the next one I get, I will most likely get the Expedition, Max. There is a lot of room in the third row, but when the third row is up, you lose a lot of truck space. All three of my kids are in some sort of car seat. We have a rear facing, forward facing, and a booster all in the middle row to utilize the whole trunk space for now.

We’ve had this far for over a year now, and got it used off of Carvana. I will say that the space, 2nd & 3rd row comfort, and versatility with the car seat placement is what drove us to love this car. We love CarPlay, however, we’ve had some issues with technology and connectivity of our phones on/off. We also have a minivan, and I struggle with missing the sliding doors, of course. The main pet peeve with this car is that our trim (or maybe all trim with this year) doesn’t have a button to open up the back, or to close the back. All of it is manual, which is interesting.

I can’t speak highly enough about my Expedition Max. It easily fits my 3 car seats and a fourth with fit no problem. Even with the third row in use I have more trunk space than I have had in previous SUVs. There are occasional recalls but Ford will come pick up your car, fix it, and drive it back so it really isn’t a huge issue. 10/10 would recommend!

Ford Expedition Max is a great family vehicle. We have 5 kids and it easily fits multiple car seats and boosters in each row. Love that we can put a collapsed stroller or multiple suitcases behind the third row while it’s up. Great truck for towing and for roadtrips.

We LOVE our Ford Expedition! It is perfect for 4 kids and I opted for the bench based on the fact that each of the middle row seats move independently from one another. They are roomy and spacious - making it the perfect vehicle when you're hauling a ton of kids. Plus it's easy to fold down seats as needed and access to the 3rd row is easy!

As a mom of two young kids, the 2026 Ford Expedition has seriously blown me away! The technology is incredible and makes everyday life with kids so much easier, while the design is absolutely out of this world. It’s stylish, comfortable, spacious, and still feels fun to drive. Ford really thought of everything with this one—it’s the perfect combination of family-friendly and luxury. I’m completely obsessed!

I’ve owned my 2024 Ford Expedition White Platinum since 2023, and I can confidently say this is the most comfortable vehicle I’ve ever ridden in. It’s reliable, has more miles on it than I care to admit, and somehow I have become a child magnet. I only have ONE child, yet I apparently run a free shuttle service because I almost always have at least four kids with me. 😂 The good news? Everybody fits comfortably. It turns on a dime, has a HUGE gas tank, and has air vents IN THE CEILING. Let me repeat that: AIR VENTS IN THE CEILING. 🙌🏼 This may be the single greatest feature ever invented for a mom hauling kids around Texas. It’s basically a rolling living room with wheels. Comfortable, roomy, dependable, and capable of transporting an entire small baseball team if necessary.

I had the 2020 Expedition Max which had some problems, partially due to the fact that the previous owners didn’t take care of it. But I loved it so much. Loved the drive and the space throughout, including trunk space. So when it was time for an upgrade, I went with the same car. A 2026 Ford Expedition Max KR. Love the upgraded technology and the split tailgate is a game changer! My husband and I both have no issues sitting in the back seat when needed, my husband being 6’ and with very broad shoulders. We would choose this car all over again.

Great car for 3 or more kids. I love everything about it except for; the cruise control camera is frequently beeping telling you to pay attention (even when you are!), and you have to have your hands a certain way or the camera is covered and will beep at you. There is a little noise from driver’s side door but Ford said it was functioning normally.

I have bench seats that I use daily and then the third row for when I’m doing sports carpool and need extra space. I love the set up for my family. Being able to put the 3rd row down when we’re traveling and having the flexibility to have it for carpooling was important for us. I love my expedition!

The Ford Expedition Max has the most comfortable ride and easiest technology to use out of all the cars I had test driven. I also love that it still has physical buttons for the air conditioner. It drives like a dream and we can fit 8 people comfortably and still have room for a stroller and luggage with the third row up!

I purchased a Ford Expedition as I transitioned away from a Chrysler Pacifica. While I do miss the sliding doors and DVD player for long drives (we had to borrow DVDs from our local library!), the Expedition has been great for our family of 5. Would recommend to any mom looking to get out of their minivan but still have plenty of space!

I love this car! Even with only having 2 children, the is car meets our needs. We take multiple roadtrips each year and the Expedition Max is perfect for our long journeys. The space, the comfort, the ride are all stellar. I love the technology and can’t go back to a vehicle without Blue Cruise for those long (or let’s be honest—quick) trips. Would 100% recommend!

It’s a wonderful mom car, with plenty of space and great features for parents and children. There is a full size third row, which comfortably sits adults and children. We have tons of cup holders for all the drinks! One of my favorite things is how comfortable the seats are, as I’m driving quite a bit every day.

We have 2023 Expedition XLT with second row bench. With not having the max the bench seat is needed we often have to put two seats down in the back to fit all the things for sports (catchers bag which is huge, wagon, cooler, chairs, etc). We have 4 boys one is still in booster and one is in a 5 point harness booster. They all fit comfortably. We are looking to get the max within the next couple months. We are undecided on bench again because we love the flexibility but these boys are only getting bigger and the captains chairs would be nice and give them even more leg room as they grow. As an adult I find the second row comfortable. With the third row up I am shocked there’s not more room in the back hence putting half the seats down in the back. The car drives well even in the Michigan winters. Highly recommend for big families!

I have three kids each 19 months apart and this car is the best! We have the limited trim level in the expedition max and we use every square inch of this car. We have taken multiple road trips and weekend camping trips with two pack n plays, tons of baby and toddler gear, strollers, tents, and luggage and it all fits nicely with while maintaining a view outside the rear window. I will often carpool with my adult friends to dinner and everyone is comfortable in the middle and third row and the carseat tilt is a game-changer for our parents to easily climb into the third row even with all the carseats installed. It's not gas efficient but it has a huge tank so I don't have to fill up that frequently when I'm just driving around town and it lasts forever on a road trip. The only complaint I have about the car is that the technology for the infotainment center can be glitchy... occasionally taking a few moments for the song information to load or the apple car play to connect but that only happens sporadically and it has always caught up. I appreciate that most of the car is technological where I want it and analog where I need it. We've had zero mechanical issues with it and I love the touchpad entry on the driver door. 11/10 recommend! I just NEED it in a hybrid...

It’s has been a great family car. Taken multiple trips out of state, many cheer and dance practices/carpools and competitions. Would 1000% buy another.

The all around best mom car in my opinion. If you need a full size, this is the way to go. Unmatched comfort, everybody has plenty of room, and it drives so well. By far our best purchase and I will never drive anything else!

Love my Expedition Max! With the 3rd kid still in a car seat, the car seat tilt was a must once I discovered this. Makes getting to the third row super easy. Also love the split tailgate so groceries don’t fall out, especially after Sam’s Club runs with no bags. Seats are comfortable, drive is smooth. Great family car!

I’ve really enjoyed my 2024 Ford Expedition. The captains chairs is one of the things I like most because they’re comfortable and make getting in and out of the third row much easier. Its been a game changer for road trips. It rides smoothly, has plenty of power, and feels solid on the road.

My husband and I both love Fords and recently got a pre owned 2025 Platinum Expedition. We wanted a car that we both enjoy driving, is roomy and great for traveling. The expedition gives us all of that and MORE. It is super user friendly technology wise - love the new smaller screen and updated dash screen. The center console storage is great and I really like how it can move back to reveal hidden storage. Our kids love the captains chairs and having their own space. This is my dream mom car and so blessed we had the opportunity to buy this vehicle pre owned and it’s basically new without the new price tag. Would highly recommend the expedition.

I absolutely love my Expedition Max. With 3 kids under 5 it is such a game changer to be able to have them all in the 2nd row bench! The extra space in the back with the 3rd row down makes me SAHM life so much easier because I don’t have to take things in and out depending on what we are doing. My stroller, pool bag, baby dome, etc. all get to live back there. I think when I go to get a new car in 5 years I will get the newer version of what I have. Absolutely recommend!!

Bought largely from the Car Mom’s recs herself! We did go with the expedition instead of the max purely because we really valued fitting it well in our garage. Have two large dogs and two kids and lots of stuff! Super glad to have the upgrade. Drives really well and feels like a powerful vehicle instead of sluggish or too big.

I've owned my 2025 Ford Expedition Max for almost 6 months now and as a mom of two girls I am OBSESSED! The new upgraded look on the exterior and interior checks all my boxes. The technology in the vehicle feels so luxury and can we talk about the BlueCruise?! AMAZING! As a family, we take lots of road trips and having that feature has been a game changer. Buying a car can be a big purchase and as a family we have zero regrets with our 2025 Ford expedition Max.

What mom car dreams are made of! I went from a Volvo XC90 to this and absolutely love having the extra space in feeling larger on the road. The twin turbo engine has a lot of power and has great towing capabilities which my husband really likes. Second and third row are great for my car seat set up in the car seat tilt is superior when accessing the 3rd row. I do have the 2020 model so my only complaint so far is the dash technology. It’s very basic compared to my Volvo I drove for a long time. Overall I absolutely love the expedition max!

I had the Expedition Max and loved it. It was preowned when we bought it. We did have to replace the transmission which we found out is a common issue with these years. We had 3 kids on the 2nd row bench including a 3 year old in a Graco slim fit, a 1.5 year old rear facing and a newborn in a Doona rear facing. We did utilize the third row often when we had other kids with us or when my son would begin bothering the girls we would sit him in the back. The carseat friendly tilt makes it so easy to tilt for third row access as long as the car seat is installed with lower anchors. We have just recently turned our youngest around as she's over 2 and now have 3 slim fits in the second row all forward facing. Another big plus is the amount of cupholder this car has. So nice and functional for a full time mom car. I have put a double Zoe in the back, a double BOB at times as well as a wagon when someone else needed me to carry to the location. No regrets!

The expedition max is everything I could dream of for a family car. From travel hockey to all the things in life. With the 3rd row up I can easily fit extra kids (or even adults), plus 3-4 hockey bags in the cargo area. House projects? Put the 2nd and 3rd row down, and I can throw in sheets of plywood and long pieces of wood that would normally stick out of a truck bed. Travel trailer camper? Get the heavy duty tow package and you’re ready to go glamping for the weekend. Seriously, we have loved everything about this car. The inside isn’t super flashy like the more luxury/expensive SUVs, but as a simple person, that doesn’t bother me. Too much technology is not my thing. I would highly recommend this car to anyone.

I feel that the new ford expedition is a great value for the performance and technology that you receive. We got the Premium package and have been very impressed with all the features included. We also needed a larger vehicle with towing capabilities and ford does a great job with trailer package features. We have captains chairs and two car seats and it is still spacious to get to the third row with a rotating car seat but the car seat tilt in the car is also very convenient. One of my favorite features is the split tailgate. I love that it helps keep all my grocery bags in place and we have all been there where we need to change a diaper from the trunk so the split tailgate makes the perfect changing table on the go.

As a tall family (hubby 6’2”, me 5’10”) this vehicle was exactly what we needed! I got the short wheel base and I don’t feel like I am missing anything not having the Max. I have one rear facing and one in a booster and both have plenty of space in the second row with adequate space in the front. I got captains chairs and love the accessibility to the third row(that’s where my oldest likes to sit). It’s easy to get in and out of for everyone, even when we have the in-laws with us! I drive my oldest 20 miles to school and back every single day and the driver seat is so incredibly comfortable to sit in. We’ve taken it on road trips 11 hours away and two hours away and we are always comfortable. I don’t know if all Ford services like this, but also my dealership will either come to my house or come pick up my vehicle and take it to the dealership to do my service and that is top-notch. So we’ve been very impressed with the service department and the price of each service.

We absolutely love our Limited Expedition! With two kids and a large dog, it has made family life and traveling so much easier. There is so much room, and I love having the middle bench because it gives us an extra seat when we need it. One of my favorite things about the Expedition is how flexible all the seating is. Being able to move the seats around makes such a difference when we have a full car, luggage, sports gear, and a big dog. Everyone can have their own space without the vehicle feeling cramped. It’s also been amazing for road trips. We can pack everything we need and still have plenty of room for the kids and dog to be comfortable. For a family vehicle, the combination of space, flexibility, and comfort is hard to beat. It has made traveling with our family genuinely easy and enjoyable.

I love, love, love all the cameras! And the dash display. This was a large jump for me in size (had a BMW X3 prior) the space is next level. My kids can climb in on their own (3 and 6). My oldest is able to open/close her own door. It rides so smoothly and I feel like I can see in all aspects. Some of the big cars I test drove I felt like I couldn’t see over the front, or if I moved the seat to be able to see, my head was hitting the roof…which was annoying. I love the car seat tilt for 3 row access, we also have the captains chairs so we can access that way. I can fit a lot on the trunk space with the 3rd row up, but we do put it down sometimes. I have an Active and it has all the features I wanted! (Personally I don’t like cooled seats!) the only thing I wish I had was the front light bar, but that’s a first world problem and not worth an additional 15-20k for me! It is my daily driver and I love her so far!

For the moms that drive everywhere and put all the miles on, this is my favorite car. 19mpg, fits all the kids from 16 years old to newborns, crazy comfortable ride with nice suspension, great storage, I love the screens, I got comfortable with the car very quickly-it checks all the boxes. Only dislike is the moving electronic center console can only move while the car is turned on. So say you store your purse (or handgun for my rural farm moms like myself) in that under center console compartment, you cannot retreive it if your car is turned off. You have to grab it prior to turning the car off which I often forget to do. If that's all I complain about then we have succeeded in this car purchase. Worth the dollars and it was a dollar well spent!

Loved everything about this car! Was so comfortable to drive & sit in. The only thing we didn't love was the second row captain's chairs... Would've preferred the bench seat so we did lose the seat in the second row and we could've utilized the whole trunk instead of having to use the third row.

The Expedition Max is large and holds everything we need and more for a family of five. We live in a rural area with rough winters and drive on a lot of gravel. We also spend a lot of time in the car for commuting and it is comfortable for everybody. I absolutely love CarPlay and the size of the screen. Im always happy in my car. One note - The electric running boards stopped working and are expensive to replace so we simply chose not to and keep them out all the time.

Well, I do not have children yet, I absolutely love my expedition. I purchased this knowing that in the near future, my husband and I would like to have between two and three kids. This has been the absolute most favorite car I have ever owned. A few of my favorite features on the King Ranch are the power running boards, of course the leather, and the infotainment system. I have had Friends kids in my car and car seat installation is a breeze, especially with all of the lower latches and the car seat tilt.

My 2 year old expedition needed an entirely new transmission at 100,000 miles. This is the comfiest car and SO good looking. But that transmission change at such a "young" age for a car was horrendous. I think I would recommend owning a new Expedition with a warranty, or leasing one. Unfortunately, as much as I loved this car, I highly discourage purchasing a used expedition unless it has a brand new transmission and you don't expect to keep it for a long time.

I LOVE my expedition. I was pregnant with our second and coming from a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland when we bought it. I went in knowing I wanted an Expedition but couldn't afford new and needed to be conscious about the problems of the 2021-2022 models. I also considered a 2024 explorer and 2025 palisade. I ended up going below budget to get a low mileage, well cared for 2020 Expedition and am so glad I did (especially now that we have baby 3 on the way!). Honestly my 2014 jeep has some tech that this car does not and that interior was much nicer (wood trim and better leather) but I would still take this car over it or the two midsize ones I considered any day. It's comfortable, it drives well and is roomy. I've taken 5 adults and 1 toddler on a cross-country roadtrip and been fine on space and comfort. Also regularly have two carseats in the captains chairs, 2 adults up front and a 100 pound lab PLUS all of our bags for traveling and been cozy but never too tight. With a third kid I might be wishing for the Max but it wouldn't fit in our garage so it wasn't something I could consider. I would buy this car a thousand times over and have no intentions of my next car being anything different!

This is my second expedition and for a large family it is a great fit. I prefer having the captains chairs to have the option to crawl to the third row to buckle or help if needed. I’m able to buckle from standing on the running board to the third row and don’t actually use the car seat friendly tilt. Car play can be a little buggy but is actually better than my 2023 I had previously. We had problems with the air conditioning that was covered by the warranty we added at purchase.

Overall it’s been great for our family. Probably bigger than we needed with 2 kids and not planning on more., but I keep me cars 10 yrs so this will help us get through carpool and sports. We did have to get a new transmission already but it was covered under warranty.

I had this car when my 5 kids were younger (Max version). It was great on space and comfort for everyone. We had several different car seats and all fit well in it. My only compliant is it's huge. I menace to park in just about every parking lot except Costco. When two of my kids started driving, we downsized to a BMW X7 and I have no regrets.

While our surprise twins didn’t give a ton of options we are SO happy we went with the expedition. We have rented mini vans on vacation and besides the gas mileage always come home happy to be back in our car. Three across was awesome when the twins were first born. The car seat tilt is amazing. I was in a 2021 Palisade before which I LOVED and had a few technologies that we find ourselves missing…mostly that you could set it to drive in eco mode all the time and the cruise control was incredible (basically self driving on the highway). I do love that auto hold is always on in the expedition. It’s by far got the most room for our family when we’ve had to pack for our bigger family. Having two kids in the back row next to each other has been a little tricky since one has moved to a high back booster—we have to climb back and get him buckled so I’m excited to see the other recommendations for that on this site! I definitely recommend this car for anyone who has 4 or more kids especially if they’re close in age!

As of family of 7, we were in need of something spacious and car seat friendly. The Car Mom sparked my interest in the Ford Expedition a few years back when she mentioned the car seat tilt in the second row. With a newborn (at the time), toddler and 3 kids, I knew we needed an easy and kid friendly way for the kids to hop in the third row without having to take out any car seats. I have the basic trim level expedition and it has been good to us so far! The only downside for me is the trunk space, but other than that it’s been the best mom/family vehicle for us!

This has been a great car for three kids in car seats. I love having the max to be able to keep the third row up for the oldest two. The baby sits in the second row and the other two seats are folded down so the big kids can climb in during school pick up.

The 2025 expedition is stylish and does has ample room for kids/busy lifestyle. Although space ranks highly, the actual drive and comfortability is a 2/10. I typically drive 35k miles a year so comfort is top of mind. The expedition drives rough, more like a long-bed truck. The drivers seat lacks any additional comfort features outside of heat/air. The split tailgate is arguably a feature that should be on every vehicle and is a lifesaver with groceries. Extended sunroof is a hit with the kids. Overall, a decent vehicle but I would not purchase another

I went from a 2018 Expedition Limited to a 2023 Expedition Limited Stealth. I debated getting something else but the expedition just can’t be beat. It feels expensive with the leather and there’s not a lot of hard plastic. When I go to any other brand it just feels cheap to me. The room, the car seat tilt, the sunroof: love all of it. I use the exterior key pad religiously as well. I don’t know if I’ll ever get a different vehicle.

We have 2 babies in car seats, & 2 dogs - so we went with the 2024 expedition max XLT (2nd row bench seat)! Everyone fits super comfortably and it really doesn’t feel like I’m driving a ‘bus’. There isn’t anything I’d change about this car honestly - it’s the most family friendly car I could imagine. Besides the size, I love the rugged, cool look of the 2024 Exp Max.

It’s like a woman/mom designed this with two significant features that put this SUV above all the rest: a huge spot for your purse or diaper bag or whatever you carry so that it’s not taking up space in the front passenger seat, OR on the center console that falls backwards anytime you hit the gas. The second best feature is the trunk/tailgate situation. Grocery shopping is a GAME CHANGER. When I open the tailgate I don’t have to worry about trying to catch everything before it falls and explodes. These features alone eliminated any other SUV option. I’ve owed a Durango, Yukon, Jeep Grand Cherokee L, and now this, all since having kids, and this vehicle is by far my favorite.

This car has so many options and as a family of 4 plus a fur baby it has all the space and tow ability we need. The middle row has captains chairs which I personally love! It’s very convenient for anyone going to the third row and a comfy space for our dog to lay when traveling. The second row has heated seats which are nice for passengers and the third row does recline some. The trunk space is good for Walmart runs but I do have put part of the third row down if I’m bringing our double stroller which is a mockingbird so rather big. The kids and I love the panoramic sunroof! I find the interior user friendly and stylish. It does come with a charging station which is not efficient so I still have to had a charging cord. I’m not a fan of the silver ford symbol on the wheels, I wish it was the same color as the rest of the wheels but honestly that’s minor. We tow our boat with this car and have no issues. I would recommend an expedited to anyone! Pros: Reliable, heated steering wheel, power lift gate, stylish, panoramic sunroof, apple car play, heated and cooled seats Cons: charging station inefficient, running boards only come out when the door is open (not ideal when going through a car wash)

The king of versatility and seating... when the transmission chooses to cooperate. The Expedition was hands down the perfect option for our family of six's needs. We chose the Max optioned with the bench second row. The turbo V6 has plenty of power that's useful for sending your groceries flying backwards when beating the car next to you off the red light and towing. It is as kind as you'd expect for a massive, hefty truck at the fuel pump too. The suspension was a good balance of being comfortable for long drives and keeping the kids from feeling nauseous on twisty mountain roads. The Max offers an additional 12” of rear cargo space. Since we always needed to have the third row up, the added space makes a huge difference for everything from Costco runs to road trips. Some will argue that it makes it harder to park. I’ve seen my wife parallel park ours in Manhattan, it’s possible. Either way this is already a large truck, what’s another foot? The seemingly endless options of lower anchor and top tether spots was great for configuring and reconfiguring the kid’s seats. Usually, we kept them in all four corners so they couldn’t touch each other and left the middle seat down for easy third row access. When we wanted to take two additional adults with us, we could easily move one kid to the third row. Car seat tilt is an absolute game changer if you’ve got a forward-facing seat with Latch. Despite the Expedition’s many great features, it has an ugly side: its transmission. While I wish I could claim that our experience having our transmission rebuilt four times was a one-off, I can point to neighbors and other parents in the car pickup line whose Expeditions have experienced the same costly issue. Don’t believe me? Google “Ford 10R80 transmission” and see what comes back. Our Expedition was so versatile – family hauler, towing machine, road trip warrior. Unfortunately, that transmission keeps me from recommending it, or owning one anymore.

We have loved our expedition. It is so comfortable and we are often driving around a car full of teenagers. I do have one complaint. The gas tank seems small to me for such a big car. I believe the extended wheel base has a bigger tank. I feel like I am Constantly getting gas!

We have loved the reliability and performance of our Expedition Max. We have 6 kids (3 in car seats), strollers, baseball gear, etc and this fits it all. I love having the Stealth Performance package for extra HP and the appearance. Carseats are easy to install in both the second and third rows - and the tilt and slide captain chairs are great (when you have FF carseats). We had a few small issues fixed under warranty: battery depleted prematurely, sunroof leaking through speaker, shaking at high speeds (new front tires were installed). Overall, very happy with Ford over the years - this is our 4th Ford vehicle. Our 2022 Ford Expedition Max was lemoned due to a system warning that would never resolve and Ford had us find a new replacement at no cost to us.

First off, I LOVE my new expedition. After hearing Kelly talk about it forever I knew it was likely to check all the boxes. The girl truly knows what she’s talking about. We went from a 2023 atlas(which I also loved) to this. The expedition is a beast for sure but I love it. The pictures shown are of it packed full for our very first family road trip. It is FULL but we did leave a seat open in the back just in case I need to get back there to tend to the baby But with that said we still have room. I love the exterior and the interior and I love the 2 screens inside and LOTS of cup holders and nooks and crannies for things. I do wish the gear shifter wasn’t a turn nob though and I wish that the climate controls weren’t on the touch screen and that the steering wheel controls had words so that you know what you’re pressing. Lastly, I wish the time popped up on the long screen on the dash. Oh and a pocket on the door for your phone would have been a nice touch. The door handle can act as a little holder but I love a tray type situation. In hindsight I would have gone with the bench seat- always get the bench with littles is my new philosophy but we are in this car for a long time now so it is what it is! The leg room is truly unbeatable. I’m 5’7 and my husband is 6’4 and the room up front is amazing but I also fit very comfortably in the 3rd row with the 2nd row seats pushed all the way back. We currently have a Britax one4life and an uppa baby v2 infant seat and both fit great. Overall, it’s an incredible family car and we do love it. The drive is really nice and the car is heavy. Oh, and the crash assist works- I wasn’t in a wreck but someone stopped short in front of me therefore I did as well and the assist was intense but it works so I’ll take it! You won’t regret this car!

My expedition is the perfect car for our family. Unpopular opinion, captain’s seats are the BEST. Easy access to third row for school and sports carpooling. Love the huge sunroof… makes the car feel bigger. Love apple CarPlay and I love the real buttons vs a HUGE screen. Perfect millennial mom car! Also, if it’s good enough for Kelly, it’s good enough for me! Team Ford Expedition!

I absolutely love the expedition. With 4 kids in car seats it’s been an absolute life saver. I love that when my baby was born I have 2 in the 3rd row and I laid the middle seat down on the bench seat. But when the baby was crying we can just fold it back up and either I can sit by the baby or sister sits by him. I love having the easy option to the 3rd row without loosing the seat. We also you the car seat tilt almost daily and it is such a life saver. One feature I think that doesn’t get looked at is you can turn off all the interior lights from the front. No more climbing in the back to turn off lights your kids left on. The expedition in by far my favorite car.

The Expedition is the perfect car for a growing family! I have a 2021 Expedition Limited with a bench seat. We bought it when we were expecting our second and it has been such a great car for our family. The standard wheelbase with the bench seat is the elite combo. I have so much trunk space with the third row down, but I don’t feel like I’m driving a bus. I do feel like I’m driving a truck, but I like to be big on the road. We are bias to Ford, but when comparing the features of the Expedition to other full size SUVS, it still was a clear winner for us. I love how all of the seats in the middle row are independent, so I can slide them or put them down on their own. When doing three car seats across or two car seats and an adult, there’s plenty of room to spare. One of the main selling points for us going with the Expedition over a minivan was the space in the front seat. My husband is a big guy and the Expedition feels like it was built for him just like his F150. I also appreciate that the technology feels modern in the front while also having knobs for adjusting things. We plan on making our current Expedition work for three kids and then with a fourth we will plan on upgrading to the Max with the bench seat per Kelly’s recommendation.

XLT trim model which is what I wanted and prefer due to having physical buttons. Captains chairs in the 2nd row make access for the 3rd row easier for passengers. Would consider buying a Max when we upgrade to have the extra storage space.

I followed "The Car Mom" for a while knowing we were wanting to upgrade before we had kids and wanted to go all in. Growing up with large SUVs we both wanted one for our future family and following TCM totally convinced us to go Ford due to middle head rests. My husband and I both absolutely love the car. We got a limited stealth edition with a bench seat. So many friends and family have complimented the looks and comfort.

2025 EXPEDITION MAX ACTIVE TOURING PACKAGE FRONT I immediately fell in love with the center console area. The storage, organziation, and size are perfection! I was overwhelmed by the amount of techhnology, but it is not as difficult to learn the ropes of as it originally appeared to be. I loved the oval steering wheel; both the look and the feel. The touchpads took a few minutes to explore since it didn't have the icons on the wheel, but I quickly grew to love the sleek appearance and usability. The seats were comfortable. No complaints! MIDDLE ROW I drove one with the bench seat. I like having the flexibility to remove the center of the bench and pretend to have captain chairs as well as the flexibility to carry another person if needed. The middle row was comfortable. It had plenty of leg room, ceiling vents, rear climate control, and nice pockets in the door (even for taller water bottles). There were two seat back pockets (one shallow, and one more traditional). There were also charging ports on the back of each seat. THIRD ROW This is where I got stuck and the only reason I didn't bring the car home today... the middle rear seat. The 2025 has a 40/20/40 split and the seat belt for the center seat comes out of the ceiling. The positioning of the belt from the ceiling is directly above the edge of the headrest of the seat next to it and therefore comes down at an angle near the side passenger, to click into the base and then across the lap into the belt receptacle. One, it is not going to rest nicely across an older child's shoulder coming out of the ceiling. Two, it is going to be very close to the person in the window seat. Three, the hip width of the seat looks and feels very narrow. I plan on taking my kids with me to try again. I do think you get more bang for your buck with the 2025 compared to the 2026. They movesd some things from the 2025 Active Touring to higher trim levels in 2026 (sun roof, charger, & other tech, etc.). Check it out before go newer.

This car has been great! It is very spacious, has great tow capacity (tow package), fits passengers like a bus. We’re always able to fit multiple car seats and adults everywhere and it’s been so convenient. We don’t live around family so we drive to them often and the extra space with the Expedition Max is amazing. We utilize it more than we thought. We got this big of car not sure if we’d have a third child or not, but use it’s full capacity. Only complaint I’d have is with the technology. The newer expeditions seem to have gotten it right. The screen is really small for this size car and there’s no front camera.

Kelly nailed it, the Expedition is a great family car! I love the flexibility of how many kids I can fit in the car and how easy it is to reconfigure everyone when necessary. We opted for the standard length rather than Max and I'm so glad. The trunk does the trick for us and it isn't quite as much of a beast to park. Some drawbacks would be that the drive is a little rough and it isn't the slickest body style but I have zero regrets about the purchase. This car has had nothing go wrong (so far!) and has been very low maintenance.

Loooooove my expedition. I will 1000% get another one after this one bites the dust! Even if I do end up having issues, expeditions are just that good. My husband is 6’6” plus we have 2 big dogs and drive 3 hours to family on the weekends 2x a month usually. Even though we don’t maximize the space daily, we definitely needed it often and are so glad we have it. Even though mine is the older body style, I still think it looks really good!!! The only thing I would change - I wish I had silver exterior as the black is really hard to keep clean. Plus I wish I had the bench seat in the second row, they’re just extremely hard to find. With 2 littles and long drives we definitely would utilize it. Overall it’s not a dealbreaker though! I’ve had minor issues with my CarPlay here and there but nothing major. Often times turning the car off and on usually fixes it.

I want to love the expedition (max) as much as I love the stealth package. It’s not 100% love for me but overall it’s a good car. I feel like some of the issues that “aren’t fixable without a recall” are the reason. Some of those are the windows going down when you put them up (and you can’t get them to stay up until you’ve attempted 15 times). The turn signal swaps directions after you’ve turned instead of turning off. I HATE that if someone drives me car and moves my seat it automatically saves that as my seat memory even if they don’t hit save. It drives well, the steering wheel took time to adjust too but that too isn’t my favorite. The back seat is super spacious, comfortable, and moves easily for all passengers.

This is my second Expedition Max! I had a 2019 Expedition Max XLT with a 202a package and was in an accident that totaled it. I loved my Expedition so much I turned around and bought a slightly new version. This time I have a 2020 Limited and I’m really enjoying the small upgrades. I love that the wireless charging area now has a shelf so the phone stays put. As a mom of three big kids (12, 11, and 8) who plays sports and play instruments, the Max is the way to go. I almost always have the third row up so I’m car pool ready and still have plenty of room for backpacks, ball bags, and a grocery run. I transitioned from a minivan to this full size SUV two years ago when my kids were 10, 8, and 6 and that was a great age. They can safely open and close doors without banging into someone else or closing it on their finger. I also love how EASY this is to drive and park. My husband had a 2017 Ford F150 with an extended bed for a while and that was A PAIN to move and park, so I was BLOWN AWAY with the turning radius on the Expedition max. Having blindspot monitoring is a huge help when driving a big car. I love this car and plan on keeping her until we run her into the ground. Hoping for 220-250k miles! My husband appreciates he can put ALL the seats flat and get full sheets of plywood. The only complaint is you have to replace the catalytic converter around 110-120k miles. It may read as an O2 sensor, but all three vehicles have needed the catalytic converter replaced. It’s about a $800 fix as of 2025.

Unpopular opinion in the car mom group, but our family of 6 really didn’t like the Expedition Max. I was influenced to get it because of the car seat tilt when we had our 4th and while that was helpful, we had multiple issues and also missed the cargo space of our suburban. We had suspension issues and my vehicle was in the shop for days at a time during the first year of owning. Not ideal as this was our only vehicle that could hold our whole family. We also ended up frequently taking 2 vehicles because there was so much less cargo space that our baseball stuff couldn’t all fit (fits easily in our suburban). I also did not like the cup holder/ dial shifting situation up front. The cup holders seemed to be more on the passenger side and I ended up getting a sore elbow from bringing my larger water cups over to the driver side. The tech wasn’t great, but even worse was the control screen turned off (another thing that required fixing in the first year). Very happy to be back in a suburban.

Fits 3 across car seats comfortably with bench option as middle. We have one rear facing, one forward facing and one booster.
