I’ve owned my 2022 Acura MDX since my oldest was 12 and my youngest was 8, and it has been a great SUV for our family during those years.
When I first purchased it, the size was perfect. My kids were old enough that we didn’t need car seats anymore, so we had plenty of room without driving a huge SUV. It was comfortable for everyday driving, school, activities, and family trips, and I loved that it didn’t feel oversized.
As a daily driver, I honestly think the MDX is one of the best SUVs. I’m 5’1”, so I personally don’t need or want a huge SUV, and the MDX is very comfortable for someone my size. It’s easy to drive, easy to park, and feels like a great balance between having SUV space without feeling like you’re driving something enormous.
Now my kids are 16 and 12, and I’ve definitely noticed the difference as they’ve grown. My 16-year-old is much bigger now, and when he does ride with me, the second row feels noticeably smaller. He doesn’t ride with me as often anymore, but when all four of us take a trip together, the MDX can feel a little tight—especially once we have luggage and everything else that comes with traveling.
For my family, I think the MDX is an excellent choice for a family with one or two kids who are out of car seats but aren’t yet big teenagers. I personally wouldn’t recommend it for a family with multiple car seats because I think the second row would feel cramped, and I also wouldn’t choose it if you’re looking for a vehicle that will comfortably accommodate larger teenagers for years to come.
Overall, I have really enjoyed my MDX. It was almost the perfect size for our family when my kids were younger, and I still absolutely love it as my everyday vehicle. I just wish there were a little more room in the second row now that my kids are getting bigger!
