I leased CX-5s for 9 years now. I loved my CX-5 until I had kids with car seats. Get great gas mileage and has all of the bells and whistles (sun roof, Apple car play etc) but with now 2 car seats it is very tight. My husband (6’1) has 0 leg room in the front passenger seat with the rear facing car seat behind him and the drivers side is just as tight. I leased this car at 8 months pregnant and was not aware how tight this car would be with the car seats in the back seat. The back seat fits the two rotating car seats I have (joie chili spin and evenflo revolve 360 slim) but both can’t be turned at the same time and there is also only enough room for a bog bag between them. Would not recommend this car for families with kids in car seats, was perfect for before kids/ when kids are older and out of car seats.

Traded in a 2019 CX-5 for the 2026 redesign. The redesign is MUCH roomier and perfect family car for a family of four. Cannot beat the price, reliability and safety. New interior room is great, plenty of room behind a tall driver for a rear facing rotating seat. I am using a Evenflo Revolve Slim and a Chicco MyFit. It’s definitely a 4 passenger car, and not made for 3 across. When my kids are bigger, we will likely need a bigger car but this is perfect for our season. Cup holder fits large Owala. Love the infotainment, safety features, and heads up display. The bridge/center console is well designed, the wireless charger works well. The car seems to sit up higher than the previous designs I know Kelly often talks about how much she dislikes this CX5, but this redesign was the roomier upgrade we needed without sacrificing safety or giving us a huge car payment! So far very happy about this decision for our family!

I’ve owned my Mazda CX-5 since 2023. It has never given me any issues. I LOVE the simple technology (dial instead of touch screen/gauges). It looks sporty (only exterior complaint is the that the red is GORGEOUS, but is chipped very easily). I had plenty of space before I was a mom, but now that I have one child it is a little tight. Rear-facing car seats take up a lot of room. With the infant seat I am still able to fit in the passenger seat, but with a convertible rear facing seat I will not be able to. The trunk is still very spacious. My stroller takes up about half of the trunk. Overall, I love my Mazda, but we will have to get a bigger car when we have a second child.

I bought this car before I was married and definitely did not think about how it would work with the next phase of life aka kids and car seats. It served me well for a few years and then had quite a shock when I installed my first car seat. I started looking at reviews to see what car seat would give us the most space but there really isn’t a great solution. We have a convertible car seat and the Graco Extend2Fit does give a teensy bit more room than a rotating car seat but the front passenger is still practically in the dashboard. It’s fine if I’m just driving around as a solo adult up front, but terrible for trips with the whole family. We are now car shopping for a 3 row suv definitely before we go for kid #2. Have already watched Kelly’s videos and reading reviews on our options this go around, will not be making that mistake again!

We bought this car before we had our first baby. We have a very narrow garage so we were needing a smaller SUV (I refuse to park outside in the Midwest - not clearing snow when I have a garage 😊). It was brand new and the technology features are great. Drives really smoothly. Has a sunroof which we like. We love the car minus the backseat. It is so small! The front seat passenger is very squished when a rear facing car seat is behind it. You have to push that seat very far up to make enough room for the car seat. It’s a real bummer.

This is a great car for commuting long distances and still dropping the kids off at school. Has everything I need to sit comfortably in traffic for 3 hours a day yet has enough room to pick and drop the kids off. It drives well and is quick.

I love the 2022 Mazda CX-5. The premium plus package gives us everything we feel we need. It feels like a higher-end vehicle, but without the higher end price. It is very reliable overall. We love that the car includes heating steering wheel, heated seats (front and back!) and tons of storage space in the cargo area. We wish that there was a bit more space in the 2nd row, as we feel that this car may not comfortably fit 2-3 car seats. We currently have 1, but it would be almost impossible for my larger spouse to comfortably drive if a child were sitting behind him in a car or booster seat.

I loved this car… until I had a baby and needed to put a baby in the backseat. Both my husband (6’4”) and myself (5’4”) can’t have the car seat behind us, so it goes on the passenger side of the back row and the front passenger seat has to go uncomfortably far up.

This generation of Mazda still has the control knob instead of a touch screen, it took some getting used to at first but now it’s second nature. It handles well & has been very reliable. I put a lot of highway miles on with a long commute. The driver seat is very comfortable & my 5’9” 13 year old has plenty of space in the backseat. My 6’4” wide shouldered husband is a little uncomfortable up front, he would not want this to be his daily driver.

We bought this car from Enterprise. The interior was just ok. Cloth seats, cup holder was odd and no touch screen. We were rear ended on right back corner on highway 64 after a Cardinals game. The car did two three sixties on the highway. We were unharmed and to be honest the car didn’t look in bad shape . The only damage was a dent in corner by the corner ( didn’t even affect trunk function) . Insurance totaled the car! It is safe as no one was hurt but golly! Totaled!

This car has been very reliable but wow is it tight. I am 5 feet tall and my knees almost hit the dash when I’m sitting in the front passenger seat with my daughter’s rear facing car seat behind me. About to have my second child and will have no choice but to get a different car.

I am a married 28 yr old with a dog, no kids so this review may not be for everyone. However, I absolutely love this car and intend to fit at least 1-2 kids in it when the time comes. There are 2 exposed lower anchors on each outboard seat which is great! Moving on to why I love this car. It has every single bell and whistle you can ever need and then some. What sold me was the leather seats as I have a high energy dog that I take to the park every day so I needed something easy to clean. An added bonus that both the front and back seats are heated, front seats also have ventilation and 3 USB-C chargers throughout the car. The 2026 full redesign also sold me because the exterior is almost giving BMW on a budget. The 15.9 inch screen for the premium plus trim is also a plus with Bluetooth Apple CarPlay. I love the large screen but I know it’s not for everyone. It’s great on gas for the size of the car, has blind spot monitoring, auto lane change while using cruise control, ambient lighting when your headlamps are on and a panoramic sun roof. The trunk space is amazing and all the second row seats fold flat. Another thing to note is the doors do go to 90 degrees which I love and I know is also a game change when taking kids in and out of the car. I can’t speak from experience on this part but I think this would be a good contender if you want luxury on a budget with 1-2 kids only.

I owned this car while I had my first baby, the car never felt ‘small’ until we had our baby in his rear facing seat. It got extremely cramped, very fast. This car was very reliable though, the only issue I experienced during owning this car for 4 years was an issue with the screen technology.

Before I became a mom, I loved my Cx-5! It’s a great size, great gas mileage, and checked all my boxes. However, it is extremely cramped even with one rear-facing kid. My son rode in a Chicco Keyfit 30 for the first year, and has since swapped to a Chicco Fit 360. While I know both are on the large side, our research showed even a small car seat would struggle to make our lives more comfortable in the CX-5. It is just not big enough in the interior for rear facing kids and tall people (I’m 5’3, husband is 5’9). We make it work with just one kid but will likely end up needing to get something bigger before we have a second. If you’re one and done, or don’t have rear facing kids, the CX-5 is a fantastic choice!!! We have put 130,000 on it in the 5 years we have had it and only one major repair (timing seal leak) a few months ago. Even my 2018 is loaded with modern tech and feels sleek and luxe inside. However, we are only one year into having little kids and plan to have more, so this car likely will no longer fit our needs in the near future. I will definitely shed tears when it’s time for her to go!

We are a one and done family in NYC and the CX-5 has been great - I see us keeping it for a very long time. The smaller size makes it easier to park and I see them all around our neighborhood in Brooklyn. When it's just our family of three, there's ample room. And when I'm driving it solo, I love it! I think it's super cute, the tech is great, it's easy and fun to drive. The only time it isn't great is when we have grandparents in the car - four adults and a carseat is a TIGHT fit and not super comfortable. Plus, no ceiling vents in the back so if can get hot. If you're often just a family of three I'd absolutely recommend. If you're thinking about a larger family, it might not be right for you.
