2025 Lexus GX 550

We upgraded to our 2022 Lexus GX from a Toyota Tacoma after having our first child, primarily because fitting a rear-facing car seat in the Tacoma was difficult. We chose the GX because of Lexus’ reputation for reliability and the V8 engine, and after owning it, we’ve been extremely happy with the decision. The GX has been a fantastic midsize SUV for our family of four. We love the exterior styling, especially with the blackout rims, and it still looks great several years into ownership. The V8 is another big highlight — it provides plenty of power and is a big part of why we chose this generation of GX. Cargo space is probably the biggest consideration for families. With the third row folded down, we’ve taken plenty of road trips and had no problem fitting a double stroller along with luggage and everything else we need. However, with the third row in use, trunk space is pretty limited. A double stroller, in particular, is difficult to accommodate along with much else. The third row itself is also not the easiest to access when you have two rear-facing car seats installed in the second row. We’ve also found that the GX gets pretty tight when we need to add another adult to our family of four. The technology is another area where the GX shows its age. It’s perfectly functional, but compared with newer SUVs, the lack of USB-C charging ports and charging options for passengers in the back is noticeable. Overall, we’ve absolutely loved our GX. It has been reliable, comfortable, capable, and a great fit for our family. If you prioritize reliability, a proven V8, and classic SUV styling over having the newest technology or maximum cargo space, the GX is a fantastic choice. For a family with young kids, I’d just recommend carefully considering your third-row and cargo-space needs.

This is an excellent car! I have a 21 year old son who is 6’5” and he fits well in the back as a passenger. I am 5’10” and find this a very comfortable drive and ride. The best part is having massage seats. I think this car would be just fine for two kids in car seats or boosters. It’s not three across friendly, but not everyone has three kids!! The trunk has amazing space. I e always been a Toyota fan, but this Lexus GX550 has my heart!!

I am absolutely obsessed with my car. We waited months and months as we weren’t going to settle. We were adamant about having captains chairs as my husband usually sits in the back seat with our daughter. We love that the captains chairs have seat heating. We don’t usually have the third row up, but both my husband and another gentleman have comfortably sat in the third row. The massaging front seats is a great added bonus. We regularly travel from Georgia to Florida (hence the mileage) and she has held up beautifully. My daughter is still in a car seat and it fits great in the captains chair. My daughter loves the sunshades built-in to the backseat windows. I genuinely have zero complaints about this car and look forward to enjoying it for years to come!

I love my GX; however, it would not be a good option for a family with more than 2 kids. When the third row is up, a gallon of milk barely fits in the trunk space. I have one rear facing and one recently turned forward facing. The Doona car seat is behind the driver. My husband is 6’ and is able to sit comfortably. We have a Baby Jogger City Turn behind the passenger. When she was rear facing, the front seat had to be a few inches closer to the dash than ideal, but it wasn’t uncomfortable. Now that she is forward facing, there is a lot of room in both rows. We travel often with our dog and it is very tight, especially if bringing baby gear. However without the dog, there is plenty of room with the third row down. Because the trunk is so small with third row up, it essentially functions as a two row suv for us. To me the biggest negative is the technology. It seems very outdated. I love the second and third row ceiling vents. Gas mileage is also a negative, but I like the V8 engine- it can get up and go! I love the way this car drives and it is incredibly reliable. If I needed to replace this car, I would likely get another GX but would want a 2022 or newer. They updated the interior in 2022 and it has much more current technology compared to previous models.
