Features We Love

The Nissan Armada was resigned in 2021, no major changes for the 2023 model.

  • Ultra-Comfortable Leather Seats: The seats are incredibly plush and soft — easily some of the most comfortable in the segment. For long road trips, daily school drop-offs, or carpool duty, that comfort factor really stands out.
  • Strong V8 Power & 8,500 lb Towing Capacity: The Armada comes with a V8 engine that delivers confident acceleration and serious towing capability (up to 8,500 lbs). If you’re towing a boat, camper, or trailer, this is a major strength.

‍

Car Mom Review

The Exterior

The Nissan Armada received a facelift in 2021. The redesigned grille and headlights give the Armada a much more current, polished look. From the side, it still carries the same bold, truck-based profile — which makes sense because it’s built like one.

If you’re thinking it looks a lot like the Infiniti QX80, you’re right. Nissan owns Infiniti, and these two vehicles are extremely similar under the skin. Think of the Armada as the more practical sibling — same bones, lower price tag.

In the back, you’ll find refreshed wraparound taillights, updated badging, and some tasteful chrome accents. Overall? I genuinely like how it looks now. It feels competitive again in the full-size SUV space.

First Row

The biggest glow-up happened inside.

My number one complaint about the outgoing Armada? No Apple CarPlay in a $60,000 SUV. That’s wild. Thankfully, 2021 fixes that.

We now get:

  • Wireless Apple CarPlay
  • Redesigned dashboard
  • Updated center stack
  • Wireless charging pad
  • USB-A, USB-C, and 12V outlets

The layout looks sleek and modern. Gloss black accents, clean climate controls, and updated tech make a huge difference. Nissan’s infotainment graphics still lean a little dated (goodbye, orange tones), but with Apple CarPlay, I’d barely use the native system anyway.

Seat Comfort

These may be some of the most comfortable seats I’ve ever sat in. The leather is incredibly soft and plush — almost luxury-level soft. That said… it’s so smooth that it shows everything. Dust, crumbs, little scratches — it’s noticeable.

From the driver’s seat, visibility is solid for such a large SUV. You sit high, and the V8 gives you plenty of confidence merging or accelerating.

Driving Experience & Capability

Under the hood, you’ve got a V8 engine. That means:

  • Strong acceleration
  • Up to 8,500 lbs towing capacity
  • 15 MPG combined (13 city / 18 highway)

It absolutely drives like a truck — but if you’re shopping full-size SUVs, that likely won’t surprise you. The power is impressive. Gas mileage? Not so much.

‍

Second Row

Second Row & Car Seat Setup

For my tour, I tested the bench seat configuration (captain’s chairs are available).

Here’s what families need to know:

  • Two sets of lower anchors (outboard seats)
  • Three tether anchors
  • Removable headrests (important!)
  • Ceiling vents (great for rear-facing kiddos)
  • USB-A, USB-C, and 12V outlets

The headrests are thicker than average. When installing my Graco Extend2Fit forward-facing seat, I had to remove the headrest to get a proper install — but thankfully they are removable.

Space-wise, there’s good legroom (I’m about six feet tall), but the doors don’t open quite as wide as I’d hoped. It’s manageable just not class-leading.

Third Row

Third Row: Tight for Adults

Let’s talk honestly about the third row.

  • No sliding second row for added space
  • No car-seat-friendly tilt
  • Three-seat bench back there (tight!)
  • One tether anchor
  • No USB ports
  • Good cup holders & ceiling vents

As a six-foot adult, I was not comfortable back there. Knees pressed forward. Headrest pushing into my back. And because the second row doesn’t slide, you’re stuck with the space you get.

This feels like a better setup for older kids rather than families juggling multiple car seats daily.

Trunk

Cargo Space

With the third row up, I tested an UPPAbaby Vista stroller — and it fit! That’s a win.

With the third row folded, you get excellent cargo space. However, you do have to manually pull straps and adjust headrests to fold it down. It’s not the most convenient system, but it works.

Safety

The 2023 Nissan Armada holds a 4-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA, with a 5-star side crash rating but only 3 stars for frontal crash and rollover resistance. It comes standard with the Nissan Safety Shield 360 suite, including automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-keeping assist.

The battery has died too many times to count! It has been to the dealership a dozen or more times and they’ve never been able to identify the problem. I know other moms who had this car with the same problem!

As a mom of two (one rear facing and one foward) I LOVE the 2026 Armada PRO 4x. We drive on country roads and in various weather conditions. The spaciousness is unmatched (previously had a highlander). We often have a 5'10" adult in the third row. I get a ton of compliments on the exterior. The technology is as good as it gets without being overwhelming. Can't beat this top safety pick!

Love the styling inside and outside of this car. It handles and drives really well considering how big it is. It parks and turns really well. My only complaint is there are not a lot of cup holders or storage areas in this car compared to other cars I have owned. The car fits my family very well and has plenty of room for adult passengers in the back rows as well as a forward facing, bulky Britax carseat. My daughter's legs are not smashed behind the driver's seat when my husband is driving which was a previous complaint of hers in my previous vehicle. Gas mileage is decent especially when driving in Eco mode.

People love to hate her but I love my car! She’s great looking, tows like a beast, extremely comfortable, and spacious for tall drivers and passengers. I have the bench, and have one RF in a Joie Chili Spin, one in a Graco booster, and one in a regular seat. It’s snug but not uncomfortable. The 3rd row is tight for anyone over 4ft lol but my kids still love it back there. TONS of trunk space with the 3rd row down, I can fit 27 bags of grain and bedding for my farm with a bit of room to spare. It’s not the most spacious with the 3rd row up but imo it’s not any worse than a Tahoe that we rented. My uppababy CRUZ fits fine along with a couple of average size bags. The tech isn’t super flashy but it’s plenty for me and the cameras are far clearer than my husbands 2025 F350. She tows my oversize 2H trailer well and is super comfy for road trips. I average 15mpg which isn’t great but expected for a full size SUV / V8 engine. There’s not much console storage and she lacks cup holders but the ceiling vents are 10/10 for RF kiddos and dogs. It handles extremely well in all weather types, and on/off paved roads. She’s not perfect but I think she’s totally underrated!

Okay, I love this car. Like… she’s pretty, she’s classy, and she makes me feel like I have my life together even when I absolutely do not. The Armada is beautiful, incredibly comfortable, spacious, has tons of tech, and feels SO safe. The ride is smooth, the seats are comfy, and I love the elevated, luxurious feel without driving a giant “mom bus.” Now for the mom truth: the third row is not my favorite. Coming from a Kia Carnival, the Armada’s third row is definitely less functional and less kid-friendly. If you regularly haul a bunch of people, you’ll notice the difference. But if your third row is more of an “emergency seating situation” than an everyday requirement, I think this SUV is fantastic. Basically: If you need a true people-mover, keep looking. If you want a gorgeous, comfortable, classy SUV with a third row you’ll use occasionally… I’m obsessed. ❤️ And yes, I realize I’m emotionally attached to my vehicle now. 😂

The car drives fine and fits a lot. My main issue is the technology. It is so clunky and the car is always beeping at you even when you are super far away from anything. It beeps if something is front of you even when in reverse. Sometimes CarPlay does work and you have to turn the car off and back on. If someone gets out of the car it won’t stop beeping even if no one is sitting there. You have to clip the seatbelt or restart the car. Seats are comfy and the drive is ok. It just won’t stop beeping at you all the time. The only thing that was good was that it was 25k less than a Tahoe for the same year and mileage. It was worth the clunky to save that much money and have a large car for college move ins.

My only negative is the gas mileage but as far as comfort/looks/performance it’s all been amazing for our family so far. I have the bench set up which was hard to find but I’m so glad I waited. I have 3 car seats across and no issues. Car seat tilt with my forward facing graco makes getting kids’ friends into the 3rd row very easy. 3rd row has ceiling vents too. All in all we’ve had this car a year but love it so far!

We love our car! It worked great for our family. It only gives us troubles when we have family visiting as then we need to use the 3rd row with the car seats in the second row. We have a bucket seat set up with a console between the seats in the second row. Since there isn’t a car seat tilt, it makes it very hard for anyone over 25 to get into the 3rd row.

I like the platinum package. But we have 2 car seats in the second row captain seats and the only downfall is the console in the middle the seats. Since we have 2 car seats installed in the captain chairs we can’t fold the seats down to access the 3rd row so if someone is needing to ride in the 3rd row they have to jump/climb over that middle console of the captain seats. And I have had to jump back there and it is not easy for an adult lol.

My husband got me this car November 2025 as a birthday present because it had always been my dream car since I was a teenager Well, I was sad to be underwhelmed by this 85k car. I had the SL trim and it was nowhere near as fancy in technology as my 2023 Palisade was. Needless to say I didn’t even lasted a year with the car.

This vehicle started giving me major transmission issues after it hit 100,000 miles. The kids always said the third row was absolutely awful to sit in. As a driver, I loved it the whole time I had it except for, of course, when it started giving me issues.

I love the armada for what it’s worth. We have two kids 6&5. It’s great for the big car feeling if you want/like that. Not great gas mileage, but not a concern to us because we don’t have to drive much day to day. A negative i have found is spacing for boosters and car seats. When we have cousins packed in it’s hard to get everyone buckled with spacing of booster seats. Definitely wish we had the new model- but got a great deal on this one and hoping to drive it for the next 5-6 years!

I’ve loved my Nissan Armada! However, I’ve questioned if I need a car this big, when I could probably get a bigger trunk space in a mid-size SUV and only have two children. This car has been very reliable for us though and I’ve enjoyed having it! My husband is tall and he also enjoys driving it since it’s a bigger vehicle.

I know the Armada isn’t for everyone, but we absolutely LOVE ours. If you like driving a bigger vehicle or want the feel of a truck with a V8 engine, need something with towing capacity, and need a spacious setup for your kids, without spending the crazy $65k+ price tag on a Tahoe, this is it. We went with the lowest trim on the 24 so I could get the bench seat and you can easily fit 3 across. The third row is definitely small & limited on legroom, suited for children. For our two toddlers, it is great! Trunk room is spacious with the 3rd row down- haven’t needed the trunk space with it up yet. The ride is so smooth and the seats are incredibly comfortable. One thing I don’t love is that the bench seats cannot be adjusted or “slid” back like most mid-size SUVs with captains chairs, but that was something that wasn’t a deal breaker for me. Gas mileage isn’t ideal, but we really wanted it to be able to have a second vehicle with towing capabilities for our boat/camper. I preferred the Armada over the tighter/smaller feel of the Telluride, Pilot, etc. I love it more everyday! P.S. I know they’re not your favorite Kelly, but some of us do love them! 🤣

We wanted a full size SUV without the Tahoe price. This felt luxurious (had the platinum trim) and had great performance in town and on highways. We grew with this car - from infant seats, to convertables, to boosters and all fit fantastically. It had decent storage with the 3rd row in use (plenty for family of 4 roadtrips). My only complaint was that the front sensors would beep when driving in snow.

I had an Expedition previously and loved the functionality but had SO many mechanical issues. It was in the shop one too many times, so we traded it in and I was very nervous nothing would compare! We've been pleasantly surprised and my husband and I both love my Armada SO much! We're not even 5 months in, but so far no issues and the only complaint has been from my kids as passengers in the second row. No one really wants the middle seat in the second row. But it feels roomier to us than my 2019 Expedition did and is so much prettier inside, the tech is great. Drives beautifully and turns heads when I pull into places since it sort of looks like a Range Rover and people have not seen them much at this point!

For a family of 4 this is a great full size SUV. 3rd row is an option if we are carting around extra kids, but if we needed to regularly utilize the 3rd row for our immediate family, it would not work. The trunk space is very small if the 3rd row is up. It is comfortable to drive/ride in. I test drove some other larger SUVs that felt more like a truck whereas the Armada doesn't. It beeps or buzzes over everything. I know those are safety features but they are excessive. The back up camera is great. I have the top trim and the heated seats/steering wheel are so nice.

I like the way the car looks, and although I don’t like the gas mileage, I knew that part going in. What I didn’t know going in is that the radio would be so glitchy it would have to be replaced, two of the four power door locks would eventually stop working, the window washer sensor would quit working, and the battery would die prematurely thanks to the “smart alternator.” The first and second rows are spacious and comfortable, but the third row and trunk are pretty worthless. My kids literally fight over who has to sit in the third row because they all hate it. First of all it’s small and uncomfortable with very little leg room, and there are also no charging ports back there, so we have to take a long one from the front or second row and snake it back there. I also hate having friends come and sit in the middle of the third row because there’s no head rest for safety back there. Now that one kid is off to college, though, and most of the time there are just two kids home, it’s not as much of an issue, but we still have everyone for vacations and some other trips, and the space and set-up for having 3 or more “big kids” is less than ideal. I’m also very annoyed that the power locks stopped working shortly after the warranty went out as did the window washer fluid sensor. The glitchy radio was replaced under warranty, and is still occasionally glitchy, but much better than the first radio was. I will have this car until it dies though, because that’s what we do, so just going to li with those things. It’s still a nice car, but I wouldn’t recommend it for more than 2 kids, and also wouldn’t recommend it because of the problems we’ve had.

The bucket seats in the second row with a console between has been convenient when I only have my 2 kids. However, I often have at least one extra child riding with us, so I have to put at least one seat up in the third row. There’s very little storage for loose things in the front row (keys, wallet, chapstick, etc.). This has been my biggest complaint. Even just a small cubby to put things in would be so nice. Overall, I love the exterior style, but I am one of MANY in the car rider line at school. :)

The gear shift always was loud and clunky going in reverse if on any incline or hill. Then our transmission went out. Could only go forward no reverse. That was after about 4.5 yrs. Otherwise we like the suv. It’s big! Rides nice and high up but a challenge to park, especially in parking garages. No CD or DVD player is a bummer. We really missed that after having a Nissan Quest with DVD and CD player. Looks really classy. Great for road trips. Not as great on gas mileage but a good ride.

I love this car! I wanted something full-sized that was a little different. Lots of tahoes, wagoneers, and expeditions where I live ☺️ It doesn’t feel difficult to drive/park like other full sized ones I’ve driven, but the cargo space feels like it! Bench middle row is the way to go. It’s wide enough for my 3 older kids to sit in the for short drives to school or church, but having the 3rd row for longer drives or for carrying extra passengers is so convenient! Not a huge trunk, but it works for what I need. Drive is smooth and I love the tech and dash.

Nice ride for front and middle row. Third row is so small and cramped. Trunk space feels like it's six inches deep. You could put the third row down to increase trunk space but why drive such a beast of a car and not use the third row. Does work for towing small boats and trailers. Good clearance for driving through snow and dirt roads.

My Armada was an okay vehicle overall. It had all the bells and whistles, although some of the technology felt a little dated. The fuel mileage was less than desirable, but it made up for that with its spacious interior and comfortable third-row seating. It was my first three-row SUV and served its purpose well. It provided plenty of room for passengers and cargo, making it a practical choice for my needs at the time.

The car drove well... but the captain seats had a console in the middle which made it very inconvenient and uncomfortable to get to the third row.

While a great LARGE SUV, the benefits do not outweigh, in my opinion. The second row has captains chairs but the console between does not come out. With kids in the second and third row and no car seat tilt, it’s hard for kids to get in the back without going over console with dirty shoes. When third row is up, there is hardly any trunk space. Large, stylish SUV, but impractical for 3+ kids.

I was a passenger in the Armada and felt that the interior tech was nice and seats are comfortable. The front hood feels very big and makes the vehicle almost seem clunky to me. It’s large on the outside, but lacks on interior space behind the 3rd row, and speaking of the 3rd row, it’s much smaller than other options out there.

I wanted to like this car so badly, but I think for families that have 2+ kids in car seats this car just does not work. The full-size SUV market is so competitive, and I just cannot justify the price of this vehicle in comparison to what the competitors offer. When you have multiple car seats in the second row, it makes access to the third row more difficult, which sort of defeats the purpose of a third row. A lot of the features that are generally included in larger family vehicles are lost in this model. Do yourself a favor: if you are planning on having more than one child in a car seat anytime in the near future, opt for a competitor.

I really like this car for what I paid. I bought with the bench in second row per the car mom. While I have four grown kids I drive my nieces and nephew around. I bought the car based on price since body style and engine were changing and compared to Tahoe, which I had for 10 years, the Armada was a good deal. Our family overall really likes this car. The bench seat is the way to go.

I love this car besides some of the technology glitches pretty often (screen freezes, phone calls don’t always work on CarPlay) but drives so well! I only have one child in a high back booster but the middle row is extremely roomy for any passengers!

The car is great for kids that are not in car seats. The second row seats are not on slides so they do not slide back and forth which is difficult with car seats. The model I have has a center console in the 2nd row which is great to hide all the kids toys
