Features We Love

For 2023, the BMW X7 got a major refresh inside and out, making it feel much more modern and upscale. It introduced a redesigned exterior with new headlights and grille, along with a curved digital display and upgraded infotainment system inside.

It also added more standard luxury features, improved performance with more horsepower, and a stronger lineup of advanced safety and driver-assist features, making it feel more competitive in the luxury SUV space overall.

  • LATCH in every second row seat: each captain’s chair has its own set of lower anchors, so I’m not fighting for positions and installs feel straightforward
  • Top tether anchors everywhere: second and third row, which I love because I’m covered no matter where I put a forward-facing seat
  • Great space for rear-facing seats: even with the driver’s seat set for a tall driver, I still have really good clearance, which is huge
  • Roomy second row seats: the captain’s chairs feel wide and comfortable, so installs don’t feel cramped or awkward
  • Third row car seat capability: I can get a forward-facing seat installed back there and feel good about the install
  • Really comfortable second row for kids: there’s plenty of space, good legroom, and it just feels like a place kids can actually sit for longer drives
  • Strong long-term setup: this is one of those cars that works well through different stages—rear-facing, forward-facing, and eventually bigger kids
  • Smooth, quiet drive: it drives really well and feels like a true luxury SUV, which just makes everyday life a little easier
Car Mom Review

The Exterior

Signature BMW Front End

The first thing you notice is the large kidney grille, which is kind of BMW’s signature look. On the X7, it’s oversized and framed with chrome, giving it a really strong, high-end feel. It’s paired with sleek adaptive LED headlights, which not only look sharp but also improve visibility at night.

Bold, Luxury Proportions

This is BMW’s largest SUV, and you can tell. The long body, wide stance, and tall profile give it a really commanding presence on the road. It looks substantial without feeling overly boxy, which is something BMW tends to do well.

Clean Side Profile with Premium Details

From the side, you get a really clean silhouette with subtle body lines and chrome accents around the windows and trim. The available large wheels (21–22 inches depending on trim) also add to that upscale look and help balance out the size of the vehicle.

Refined Rear Design

The back of the X7 keeps things simple but polished. You’ve got slim LED taillights and a wide rear stance that makes the car feel planted. It’s not overly flashy, but it still feels premium and cohesive with the rest of the design.

Still Practical for Everyday Use

Even though it leans more luxury, it still feels like a very usable SUV. The size is manageable, the visibility is good, and it doesn’t feel overly bulky when you’re driving or parking.

Overall, I think this is a really good-looking SUV. It feels more modern and more premium than before, but still practical for everyday life with kids.

First Row

Clean, Digital Driver Experience

The first row feels very modern right away. I’ve got a fully digital dash plus a heads-up display, which I love because I can see speed, navigation, and calls without taking my eyes off the road. It just makes driving feel easier and more intuitive.

Interior Design Feels Elevated

This is where the car really leans luxury. The quilted leather around the screen, the wood trim, and the two-tone materials all come together in a really nice way. It feels high-end without being over the top.

Tech That’s Easy to Use

The touchscreen is responsive and everything is pretty straightforward. It is more touch-based than button-based, which looks clean, but I will say… it’s definitely fingerprint city. You do get feedback when you press things, which helps.

Everyday Functionality

You’ve got a wireless charging pad, good-sized cupholders, and easy access to everything you need. Nothing feels awkward to reach, which I always pay attention to.

Comfort + Driving Experience

The seats are comfortable, the ride is really quiet, and overall it just feels like a true luxury SUV when you’re driving. It’s smooth, it handles well, and it doesn’t feel overly big from the driver’s seat.

One Small Miss

The center console is on the smaller side. It’s deep, but not huge, so if you carry a lot with you, you might notice that.

Second Row

This is a really strong second row for car seats, and honestly where this car makes the most sense for families. I feel like I have a lot of flexibility here depending on what stage my kids are in.

LATCH + Tether Anchor Setup

  • Lower anchors (LATCH): with captain’s chairs, I have one full set on each outboard seat, so installs feel straightforward and I’m not competing for space
  • Top tether anchors: every second row seat has one, which I love because I’m fully covered for forward-facing car seats

Space for Rear-Facing Seats

This is one of the biggest wins. I’ve got the driver’s seat set for a tall driver, and I still have really good clearance. That tells me rear-facing seats are going to fit comfortably without forcing the front row forward.

Multiple Car Seat Flexibility

The setup here works well for different stages. I can do rear-facing, forward-facing, or a mix, and the spacing makes it feel manageable. The captain’s chairs also make it easier to separate kids and avoid crowding.

Ease of Install

The seats feel wide enough that installs don’t feel cramped or awkward. I’m not fighting for space, and everything feels pretty straightforward, which is exactly what I want day to day.

Access to the Third Row

  • Car seat–friendly tilt: I can slide and tilt the second row forward even with a car seat installed (as long as it’s using the lower anchors), which is a huge win
  • Easy-to-use buttons: they’re placed where kids can actually reach them, so getting back there is more realistic

Overall, this second row is where I would be doing most of my car seat setups. It’s spacious, flexible, and just feels easy to live with, which is exactly what you want.

Third Row

The third row is usable, but I’m definitely thinking of this more as a backup car seat space, not my main setup.

LATCH + Tether Anchor Setup

  • Lower anchors (LATCH): there’s one set on the driver’s side seat
  • Top tether anchors: available across the third row, which I do love because I’m covered for forward-facing seats

Space + Fit

This is not the biggest third row. If I have the second row pushed all the way back, I’m pretty squished. I can slide it forward to make it work, but overall this is going to be better for kids than adults.

Car Seat Install Reality

I can get a forward-facing seat installed back here and get a secure fit, which is great. The headrests are removable, which helps with installs—but I’ll be honest, they’re not the easiest to take out.

Layout + Functionality

I do like that it’s only a two-seat third row. They didn’t try to squeeze in a useless middle seat, and that actually makes installs a little more realistic.

Access to the Third Row

Getting back here is doable, especially with the one-touch slide and tilt from the second row. It’s much easier than some SUVs, especially since it can work with a car seat installed (when using lower anchors).

Overall, I can make a car seat work back here if I need to, but realistically, I’m prioritizing the second row for everyday use and using the third row more occasionally.

No items found.

Trunk

The trunk is solid, but not a standout when the third row is up. It works for everyday items, just not a ton of space compared to some competitors.

The underfloor storage is the real highlight. It adds extra depth for things like a stroller and actually stays open while you’re loading, which makes it way more functional.

Once you fold the third row down, the space opens up a lot and becomes much more usable for bigger hauls or trips.

Safety

Safety is one of those areas where this car just feels really solid overall. It’s not doing anything crazy or flashy, but it’s checking all the boxes you want—and a few things I actually really appreciate in real life.

From a driver assistance standpoint, you’ve got all the core features covered:

  • Forward Emergency Braking + Pedestrian Detection: helps step in if something is happening in front of you
  • Blind Spot Monitoring + Lane Departure Warning: gives you that extra awareness, especially on the highway
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Alert + Rear Automatic Braking: really helpful in parking lots and school pickup situations
  • High Beam Assist: adjusts automatically at night so you don’t have to think about it

There are also some more advanced features available depending on the trim:

  • ProPILOT Assist (and newer hands-off version): helps with steering, braking, and overall driving fatigue on longer drives
  • Around View Monitor: gives you a full 360° view around the car, which makes parking so much easier
  • Smart Rear View Mirror: you can switch to a camera view if your back window is blocked by kids or cargo

From a car seat and family safety perspective, this is where I really pay attention:

  • Top tether anchors in every rear seat: second and third row, which is exactly what I want for forward-facing car seats
  • Lower anchors (LATCH): available in the second row and one position in the third row, giving some flexibility

And then specifically for seat belts:

  • Seat belt pretensioners: located in the front seats (driver and passenger)
  • These tighten automatically in a crash to help keep you securely in place, which is exactly what they’re supposed to do
Car Seat Setup

This is a car that I actually feel really good about from a car seat perspective. It’s not perfect in every scenario, but there’s a lot of flexibility here, especially in the second row.

  • LATCH in the second row: with captain’s chairs, I have a full set of lower anchors on each outboard seat, so installs feel straightforward and I’m not competing for positions
  • Top tether anchors everywhere: second row and third row, which I love because I’m fully covered for forward-facing car seats

The spacing is one of the biggest wins here. I’ve got the driver’s seat set for a tall driver, and I still have really good clearance, which tells me rear-facing seats are going to fit well without forcing the front seats forward.

  • Great for rear-facing installs: plenty of room front to back
  • Wide seats: installs don’t feel cramped or awkward

Now, if I’m thinking about multiple kids and real-life use, this is where I start to plan things out a bit more.

  • Second row is the priority: this is where I’m doing most of my installs
  • Third row is more of a backup: I can get a forward-facing seat installed back there, and I do have one set of lower anchors on the driver’s side plus tether anchors, but it’s not my first choice

Access is something to think about too:

  • Car seat–friendly tilt: I can move the second row forward even with a car seat installed (as long as it’s using lower anchors), which helps a lot
  • Still not the easiest for everyday third row use: especially if I’m loading multiple kids

The bench seat for second row is great. The bench is motorized and can moved backwards to accommodate more kid leg room (aka less kicking of the driver and passenger seats). The bench is also able to fully lay flat for when hauling a big load. The captains chairs do NOT lay flat, so if being able to haul things is a priority, be sure to get the bench. The powered seats move like molasses, so be prepared to wait several seconds - wish they were manual in some ways. The front screen technology is not great - too many touch-pad options and not enough buttons. For example, changing fan speed takes several clicks. Split tailgate is one of the best features. Drive and power fantastic, as expected with a BMW. Overall, love this car, just a few quirks that other cars have mastered.

This is a great car for those with older (bigger) kids! The 2nd row is so spacious! The seat glides to give even more leg room. The 3rd row however, is pretty tight! Ok for short trips but very tight with older kids. Nice to have for emergencies but not wouldn’t count on for regular use.

Though it’s my favorite car to drive as a mom of 3 the interior design is tough. When I just had 2 kids it wasn’t as big of a deal, but even with 2 getting to the 3rd row was hard. I have captain chairs and they built a cup holder on the floor in between the chairs. There is little room between car seats and drivers/passenger chairs. Though I love the look, feel and their performance, there are probably far better cars that work for kids. I still own it and we make it worth, but I do feel aggravated weekly with the 3rd row access.

As someone who commutes and spends 2 hours a day in my car, I am very picky about driver comfort. I absolutely love driving this vehicle every day. However I don’t enjoy being the owner of the vehicle responsible for maintenance on this vehicle. Warranty was abysmal. Very expensive to maintain. Captain seats in 2nd and 3rd row, hard to access the 3rd row but spacious once you get back there. With 3rd row down have plenty of room in the back for double stroller, groceries etc. with 3rd row up can fit stroller but it’s tight.

Love the x7 with bench seat. Front seats are amazing, Back row is spacious and it drives like a dream! Only small issue is the 3rd row doesn’t have the best leg room and when it is up you don’t have much trunk space.

I live in my car driving my kids to and from their activities. Because of this, comfort and drive performance were very important to me. The BMW exceeds this. The most comfortable car I’ve owned and drives like a dream. I would probably not have loved this car when I needed car seats. But with older kids, it’s been so great. The second row is very roomy and comfortable for adult passengers. The third row is tight and we only use it when necessary. Majority of the time, I have the third row down. Also to be noted, we have the second row bench. I prefer it over the captain chairs as we can fit 3 across easily without putting up the third row.

I have the M series with a bench seat. The second row has great leg room, built in sunshades, heated seats and charging ports. The third row has 2 seats, which I like. I love the addition of the 3rd row sunroof. I don’t have any complaints about the power. It feels like you’re driving a sports car as your grocery getter. It has a good size trunk with storage underneath. It has really nice touches- cooled and heated cup holders, heated, cooled and massaging front seats, ambient lighting, crystal features, heads up display, split tailgate, etc. There are some downsides to this car though. If you have this car without a warranty expect to pay almost as much in parts, repairs and maintenance as you paid for the car. The tech in this car is not my favorite. A lot of controls are in the screen, but they are nearly impossible to find. 3 years later and I still don’t know where certain things are. The third row goes up and down with a button. It works about half of the time. The blind spot sensors are less than desirable, especially in reverse. Would I recommend this car? yes. Would I buy another one? Possibly, but probably not.

This car was great when I needed a larger vehicle to accommodate my three children, but I wasn’t ready to drive a bus. I had to buy slim five point harness car seats, but was able to fit three across my second row bench. I didn’t find the trunk space to be great with the third row up, but it was sufficient enough. The car is a workhorse yet very luxurious and I love that BMW include includes service in their contracts. I’ve recommended this car to a number of growing families. I should mention I had a second row bench because I found the captains chairs to be a waste. While the seats are cozy, the space between them for access to the third row is laughable. I preferred to keep the extra seat over the “convenience” of captain’s chairs.

The X7 is a highly underrated family car. The second row is extremely spacious and comfortably accommodates rear facing car seats while leaving the front seats plenty of room. There are lots of features that make it great for having young kids, like easily accessible latches, button powered sun shades on all doors that can be operated from the driver seat, and the third row has ceiling vents that can be angled toward the second row. The trunk is spacious and the load-bearing split tailgate makes it easy to load/unload, and provides a great usable space when the trunk is full on road trips. The doors self soft-close, which is quiet (great when you have sleeping children in the car and are hopping in and out, especially on a road trip! - that is of course only with two adults, not leaving kids unattended in the car). And the performance and handling are great - it doesn’t drive like a large SUV. It’s also loaded with luxuries and comforts like heated and cooled seats, remote operations from a phone app, power folding second and third rows, air suspension, and so much more. We are so happy with it for our family with two littles! We previously had a Volvo XC-90 and infinitely prefer the size and comfort of the X7. We test drove (and installed our rotating car seat to determine fit) sooo many cars before deciding, including the Toyota Grand Highlander, Honda Pilot, Mazda CX-90, Lexus TX, Lexus GX, Lexus LX, Acura MDX, and others but none were as comfortable or accommodating. We love and highly recommend the X7, and feel it is far too overlooked as a family car!

Great smaller sized 3rd row car. The technology is amazing. I really enjoy the automatic sun shades in the second row.

If you need easy or quick access to the 3rd row, keep looking. It's electric and takes forever for the 2nd row seats to move forward to get access the 3rd row. Otherwise, I love this car. It's the first car I've ever had that if something happened to it, I would go buy the same car.

Pros: luxury style and features, smooth driving, trunk space w/third row down, 2022 still features physical buttons on the dash Cons: technology tricky at times (lots of clicks to access back row fan and temp control), phone charging station behind two cup holders making it difficult to access, automatic seats-there are so many buttons/options it can get confusing at times which seat you are moving. We have two children, ages 8 and 5. I drove a 2013 Volvo XC 60 for 12 years prior and wanted a larger luxury vehicle. For our family, the bench + third row is great for comfort, added seating, and traveling. We keep the third row mostly down for additional trunk space. The car drives well and we’ve had no major issues so far.

For kid configuration we did a bench seat and we keep the middle seat folded down so it’s easy for my 6 y.o. to climb back (2nd row cannot do 3 across car seats).

We bought this car because we needed more space. We have 3 boys and the captains chairs were a plus for us! We have our two little ones in the front and our oldest in the back. Ceiling vents are a plus on the back, including cup holders and chargers on each side. Kids can easily climb in and out either in between the captains chairs or by pushing a button to move the captains chairs forward. There is no disappointment in the engine and spec area. This thing roars when it gets on the highway. Very big help when a mom is running a little behind. Trunk is a good space and you can get more by reclining both 3 row chairs. Overall, love the appearance of the car and the extra space we now have.

We went from a KIA telluride -> Volvo XC90 -> X7. Telluride by far have the best tech/app experience. Volvo was great performance, but poor 3rd row and trunk. Like the X7 for trunk and 2nd row captain chairs, but with another on the way it won’t last long. Happy with the performance, but user app can be improved when comparing to X7. Biggest ‘con’ of the 3rd row is the access. It is an automatic access but takes time and our kids just climb over, which is ‘tech y’ but annoying. Trunk space is subpar. Not enough for a stroller, just grocery run.

CAR SEAT WARNING!!!! Test drove this B E A U T I F U L car only to realize that if you’re looking at the version with captains seats in the second row, the car seat tether buckle is on the FLOOR. Which is kind of insane if you ever want to use the third row…. You couldn’t ever adjust the seat of the car if so ? Kind of a crazy design… but the ones with bench seat don’t have this crazy tether placement!! @kelly- you should make a video on this!!!🫶🏼

As a mom, the BMW X7 is a great choice. It feels spacious without being too big for me to drive comfortably and is a good size for our growing family. One thing to not is that the air conditioning could be better and the second row could benefit from overhead vents. We did choose captains chairs, which helps with ease of access to the third row, so I definitely recommend that over the bench seat for growing families.

I absolutely love this car but if I ordered it again when 2/3 of my kids were in car seats in wouldnt do bucket seats. with both car seats you can’t get to 3rd row unless you climb through the middle. now my teenager drives so it’s not a issue but something to think about if you are a mom of 3 and using car seats still. love the drive of this car and the space. if you aren’t using the 3rd row the trunk is huge! if 3rd is up then you can fit a single stroller alone of a grocery haul. you also cannot have a car seat in the 3rd row and one of front of it in the second. doesn’t all for enough space. all in all I love this car and has been great for my family. if you add a roof bin it adds so much space for when travel.

I love how my car looks from the outside and how it drives!! But there are definitely some drawbacks if it’s going to be a family car! I have two kids, so the bucket seats are great, but it’s not easy to get to the third row if you have car seats in the second row and are planning to use it often. My only other gripe is that the AC vents in the front aren’t super adjustable. In the Texas summer heat I want to feel more air on my *face* but I really don’t get my Beyoncé fan unless it’s on full blast!

I love this car and it’s fun to drive. It handles so nicely and is quick. It’s comfortable and powerful. I have a bench in the backseat and mostly leave the 3rd row down for trunk space and it’s plenty big enough for my family. The main downside to this car is the cup holder set up-it’s clunky. Otherwise I love this car and couldn’t recommend more.

Love this car. Plenty of trunk space. We had captain seats and it was game changer for long car rides when I needed to be in the back with baby. I had plenty of space to sit in the front with the RF car seat behind me and in the backseat if I needed to.

I love this car. This is my second BMW X7 and it has been a great car for me and my teenagers. I love the interior space without feeling like a huge SUV. It rides really well and is very comfortable. I love the front screen display and how it curves, making it easier to see. This car has all the great conveniences like head up display, kick tailgate, power seats, heated/cooling cupholders, power shades on the second row windows, and heated/cooling seats. I dislike how the charging tray is behind the cupholders. If you have both cups occupied you can't get to the phone. I guess in terms of the location for the charging pad is good for safety but can be a nuisance when getting out of the car wanting your phone but not needing to take your cups. I also have found the volume can be temperamental and need resetting. For instance, it can come on really low where it's really hard to hear even after turning it all the way up. Another thing is the tires, they don't seem to last very long if you do a lot of city/long driving. I can get about 20k on tires and they are pretty expensive to replace. I find the pros outweigh the cons for our family and would buy another X7.

I absolutely love this car! It was my first downsize from driving people moves with 4 kids for the last 17 years. I love the way it handles, the driver assist features and the color is gorgeous. I do wish I could use the BMW Assistant at the same time I have CarPlay going. I have adult kids, or at least that size. The second row isn’t a problem at all - my husband is 6’4” and my youngest son is 6’6”. I wouldn’t have them sit behind each other, but my son can sit behind me and be comfortable. We road trip quite a bit and the driver assist features are an absolute dream. One of the few annoying things is how slowly the car seat tilt moves. We don’t use it for car seats, but it is how we access the third row and the pace is…glacial. Also annoying is sometimes the car is smarter than me so I don’t push buttons in the right order. But if you buy from a BMW dealership they have a whole tech school that will teach you all the ins and outs of using the car.

I love the exterior of this car. It’s fun and sporty, and the ability to accelerate quickly on the interstate was one of the reasons I bought it. I drive on the interstate every day to pick up my daughter from school, and this car is fast enough to make merging and interstate driving feel much easier and safer. The seat interior is beautiful and very comfortable. My kids who sit in the second row agree! The technology is okay. CarPlay doesn’t always connect when I get in the car, and it can be difficult to reconnect once I’m already driving. It almost seems like the system forgets that CarPlay was previously connected. I also wish there were a physical knob for adjusting the AC. Having to use the screen while driving is much less convenient. My #1 complaint and the only reason I would hesitate to buy this car again is the brake squealing. No one warned me about this when I purchased the car. The dealership told me it is caused by dust and dirt buildup on the brakes and that it cannot really be prevented. They have cleaned the brakes for me, but unfortunately, the squealing only goes away for a week or so before returning. It doesn’t happen all the time, but it happens often enough to be embarrassing, especially during car pickup at my daughter’s school. I absolutely love the look, performance, and comfort of this car, but the persistent brake squealing is a major disappointment.

I have been loving my x5! I have 2 girls under 2- so 2 rear facing car seats. My only real complaint with the car is that the back seat isn’t wide enough for me to fit comfortably between the two car seats with my current car seat setup. I did it on our initial drive home from the hospital with our second but it was very very tight. Also when my husband (6’3”) drives my car the driver seat does press up against the car seat behind it. I love that it is relatively easy to pass snacks back to my daughter and the trunk size where I can easily through my double stroller. Now my wonderfold wagon fits but takes up basically the whole trunk. We have road tripped with it before my youngest was born and had plenty of space for the stroller and all the bags needed. Also love how huge the gas tank is! I don’t have to fill up every week and that is honestly such a gift!

Used my mom’s X7 for a couple weeks while visiting. Wasn’t my favorite for fitting four children in car seats. The third tow is tight! Also behind the third row was not big enough for my Bombi Bebee double stroller (which does fit behind the third row of my GLS). It had a bench and fit three across since I have narrow seats from doing three across in my own vehicle. My oldest FF in the third row had her knees almost touching the 2nd row seat back though and I couldn’t fit a RF back there either. I’d say this car works for 3 kids max.

I absolutely adore this car! It drives smoothly and is easy to park. The second row offers ample legroom, accommodating my tall husband with a rear-facing car seat installed behind it. However, the only downside I’ve encountered is that getting a third car seat into the car can be quite challenging.

I’m Obsessed! Went from a minivan to this and I can’t say enough good things! I will say my kids are old enough that they don’t eat in it unless we are on road trips so it stays cleaner than my minivan did. Also, I don’t use the 3rd row daily, and I would hesitate to put an adult back there… but hey, if I need it, it’s there!

We purchased the X7 shortly after my son was born and love it! This came off the heels of having VW buy back a Covid lemon car and jumping into a Jeep Grand Cherokee L lease since there was very limited supply of cars to choose from. My husband has exclusively driven BMWs and we decided to go back to something he would be able to fix if something went wrong. The ride is amazing, the cabin is quiet and I love all of the comfort features! The space between the driver/passenger and the second row is incredible. The third row is hard to get in and out of and the controls are confusing but we keep the seats down 99% of the time and use it for the trunk space. We have a 5 month old and a 3 year old and don’t plan to have any more. Our 3 year old is in the Nuna Revv rotating seat and 5 month old is in the Nuna pipa infant seat. It is very tight to sit in the middle of the two seats but doable. Traveling can be difficult to fit everything we need and have debated on getting a roof rack, but I love it for every day driving. It is big and roomy but doesn’t feel like I’m driving a bus around. All in all I would purchase again and love this car!

I love the look and drive of this car. It has to be one of the best looking mid/full size SUV on the market. The drive is very comfortable although less sporty than other BMW models. Where I have the most concern is longevity for my growing family. We currently have a 22 month old and will have another one in a couple of months. Right now the car is working great with 1 rear facing car seat (Nuna Revv) and 1 dog car seat however once we add an infant seat there will be very little room and likely will barely be able to fit our dog in the middle seat given how small they made the middle seat. We already know once we add a 3rd we will need to switch to one of the larger full size SUVs but until then I’m going to enjoy the comfort that this car provides.

I opted for a bench vs capt chairs w only 2 kids…the middle counsel folds down for family trips that gives them each additional storage space and cup holders. Third row is only 2 seats but we use only for carpooling Con- seats are automatic only which can be slow and annoying Pro- good trunk space, love the small flip that keeps groceries in place when opening hatch, ceiling vents and heated/ac in 2nd row along w driver and passenger With growing girls this checked all my boxes while also giving me sleek and sporty

If you’re looking for a fun mom car, this is it. Handling is amazing. But I’m not sure I’d buy this with more than 2 kids. Full disclosure, my first one (a 2023) had a brake issue which BMW later did a recall on. They ended up buying me out of it at exactly 30 days in the shop. They couldn’t have been better about it. I loved the car so much and was treated so well that I bought another. Heads up display is life-changing and it comes standard. You need to get the extra cameras though. It’s not the biggest second or 3rd row. I wouldn’t buy this to do 3 across or to use the 3rd row daily. But as a small adult I fit fine in the 3rd row and have great amenities like heated seats, separate sun roof, climate control and more. My kids love the car too. The holiday videos that BMW sends are ridiculous but also so fun. I think this is the perfect car for 2 kids and frequent carpools. It’s not going to feel as luxurious as a Mercedes GLS but it’s going to drive a lot better and it’s a sportier look. I will strongly consider buying a 3rd when the next redesign comes out!

The BMW X7 is a perfect car for our family of 5! The interior is extremely comfortable with the front seats heated and a/c with several options to adjust for comfort. We have a bench in the middle and primarily keep the 3rd row down for storage but occasionally put them up if someone joins us on our travels. The powerfold 3rd row makes this a quick and easy change and at 5’2” I can ride there comfortably. Our oldest is in a booster seat and our twins are in Diono Radian 3Rs. They all have plenty of leg room in the 2nd row and the climate controls and vents keep them comfortable. My only minor complaint about this setup is that sometimes it can be difficult for our 8 y.o. to access the buckle of his seat belt and he often needs assistance. With BMW performance this truly does not feel like a mom car! The ride is peaceful and quiet when I am driving without passengers. This is very enjoyable and stylish to drive and the tech is top notch. The BMW app has also been a bonus of this car, unlocking, locking, remote starting and using my phone as a key are all handy features! When this lease is up in 2 years I will likely be planning to lease another X7!

First and foremost... wow. We LOVE this car. Haven't had it long, but it has always been a big dream car for me. We previously had an X5 (when we had one child) and I loved it. We recently decided to "make the plunge" for the X7. We decided cost was more important than the newer body style (released in 2023), so we got a 2022 with about 52k miles on it for around 40k from a local Denver dealer. It has SO many bells and whistles and basically every additional package. A white interior (a little scary with a 4 and 7 year old, but here we are), and a carbon black metallic exterior which is black technically but definitely gives dark navy blue, especially in the light. I am obsessed with the color combination. Black rims. Chef's kiss. We have 2 kids, one in a booster and a 4 year old is a Graco forward facing car seat. It has the bench, and fits them great. We WILL NOT use the 3rd row. I mean, we can. I haven't even tried yet to be honest. The trunk space with the third row up is a joke. But, that is fine for our family. I wanted an X7 and I liked the idea that the 3rd row was there if needed. The drive of this car is impeccable. I feel so happy driving it each day. The seats - omg. They are so customizable for the driver and passenger. I LOVE the memory seats especially since my husband and I share this car. Overall, with 2 kids, I think this car is perfect. It is a great mom-mobile. It is comfortable, easy to drive (easier than I thought to be honest I was worried it would be a bit big), and SO fun and zippy. To a mom who wants to be a BMW mom, I say go for it. There is something to be said about driving a luxury SUV and I AM HERE FOR IT!!

Although our car is only 3 years old, we’ve had a few technical issues that have cost us a pretty penny. If you can, purchase this car new or within warranty! Lots of space in the back and a super comfortable ride. Things I love: Trunk space- I love the trunk with the tailgate. Keys- I love that you just have to have the key on you when you walk close to the car and it’ll unlock. This feature is great when you have kids in your hands! Automatic wipers- surprisingly accurate and nice to have Things I don’t love: Tires- you cannot do all season tires with the X7 so you will need winter and summer tires that cost about 4k per pair!! Space up front - there is nowhere to put your phone.. the charging dock is BEHIND the cup holders which is actually very annoying. Overall, it’s a great car but I wish I had done way more research before purchasing. The things I love are just nice to have, and the things I hate are something that would make me reconsider this car.

I love this car! I work as a luxury real estate agent, so I needed something that could serve my family (kids 8 and 5), had a third row, and handled the mountain roads well, but looked great too! This car checks all of those boxes! Love the tech, the interior styling, and the way it drives. Also, gas mileage is surprisingly great too with a turbo hybrid engine, on average I get about 23 miles to the gallon. One hurdle is that the headrests are not removable which can make front facing and booster seats tricky. Just something to keep in mind!

Drives/handles so well! Great power. My model as the last year for having an actual gear shift and buttons. The second row is great for teenagers and probably great for two kids in car seats. The third row is nice for the size of the car and is two good size seats (doesn’t pretend to seat three people). The third row is only used occasionally and probably not great for everyday use. I love the split tailgate. Disappointed that the captain seats don’t lay flat.

While the tech can be overwhelming- 2 years in and still discovering things I had no clue it could do- the X7 is truly a wonderful family car! We do a lot of sports car pools and can easily fit a gaggle of kids with room to spare along with all their gear. The biggest negative of the car is that the 2nd row bench seat is ROUGH for kids still in boosters to buckle themselves. Save yourself some sanity and just get a 5-point harness booster to avoid the annoyance of still having to buckle elementary-aged kiddos in a backless booster. The only other mildly annnoying thing is the electrical that runs the windows and seat movement is lackadaisical and SO slow- like the DMV sloth in Zootopia sloooooow. Other than those relatively minor issues, absolutely LOVE the X7 and would highly recommend it, especially for moms in the car pool stage of mom life!

I love driving my car! It feels luxurious and the drive is so smooth. The seats are comfortable, and the technology is perfect for me— it’s fancy without being over the top. The legroom in the second (and even in the third) row are great. I really like the SIZE of the car for city-driving (we live in a city). I can easily parallel park and the car fits in our garage. My only issue so far is having three kids in car seats. We have captains seats, and accessing the third row to help my oldest with his buckle was a challenge. Now that he’s almost 5, he can buckle himself, so that makes things easier. But as he grows, I think it may be harder for him to get back in the third row through the captains seats. The space between the two captains chairs is really tight (though I heard some people take off the armrests… but even then I think it would still be tight). I do, however, like that the car feels more spacious with the captains seats. Be careful when you’re buying the car and make sure that you have all-season tires on the car before you buy it! We made the mistake of buying ours with summer tires, and I got 3 flat tires a month into driving it. All in all, I love this car for city driving and for where we are at in our lives at this moment. If we lived somewhere more rural/suburban, I would have opted for an Escalade or something probably.

I have driven a BMW for the last 8+ years so it's hard to imagine switching to anything else. It's hard to compare to the drive, style, and comfort of a BMW. It has all the bells you'd want - built in sunshades, massage seats, all the cameras. My only complaints are: they only offered a deep more red tan interior versus a lighter beige tan and it's not my favorite. The inside storage feels lackluster for a decent sized SUV - small center console and in the trunk no hidden storage under it at all. We have captains chairs and the black hole between my kids car seats is just asking for clutter and crumbs.

Upgraded to this X7 from a Lexus NX when we were transitioning into 2 rear facing car seat as the NX felt small in second row space. Overall love this vehicle - especially the Assisted Driving Plus feature (not on all models but can tell if it has it by looking for green lights on the steering wheel). This is comparable to the Lexus Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (which was a must find feature for us in our upgrade). Fantastic panoramic sunroof and extra sunroof in the third row so it doesn't feel congested. Third row space is great. Split tailgate is a favorite feature along with ample trunk space. Primary complaint is no ceiling vents - with rear facing car seats this might be reason enough to have wandering eyes after a hot summer. We have an evenflo revolve and graco slimfit3 lx for reference. we can also fit a wayB pico harness in the middle seat as we've done if carpooling to make full use of the second row bench. I find the seats to be less comfortable than the Lexus as Chicago commutes can test your patience and body. Other great features: cup holders hold my 40 oz, wireless charger is pushed behind cup holders to avoid phone distraction, but apple carplay connects so seamlessly when i sit down I never have to reach for my phone. The tech and wide screen in this car surprised me (as someone who prefers buttons) - it was easy to learn and use. oh and power sun shades in second row spoiled me!

This is truly our beloved road trip car! We live in Northern VA and travel to Chicago, Florida, Massachusetts and New York multiple times a year and this has been a family hauler for my family of 5. The trunk space is teeny tiny, but we got a roof rack that fits on the top which holds so much stuff, so we don't feel stuffed in at all. I frequently sit in the 2nd row with my baby, while my 3 and 5 year old are in the 3rd row. It has a lot of seating flexibility for us and our growing family. I do have a bench which makes things easier and appreciate that I will eventually be able to put the 3rd row down to have more trunk space. As for the 3rd row, I love the ceiling vents, moonroof, climate control and heated seats, it is such a game changer for comfort. It is super easy to get in the 3rd row with the power seats and appreciate that there are only 2 seats back there instead of trying to squeeze in a third. I find this car sits high up when driving and is adjustable so you can get in and out easily (I am 5' 3" and don't want to feel like I am climbing a mountain each time I get in and out). You have great visibility and I love the android auto/car play connectivity so the UI always feels fresh. We do use this as a daily driver on occasion and enjoy the space it has.

I owned this car for just a couple of days so my review is limited, and I loved absolutely everything about it *except* I have back problems and it was so incredibly uncomfortable for me to drive for longer periods, so I unfortunately had to return it. The styling was beautiful, and handling and performance were really great. The technology and features were a little confusing at first, but once I used it a bit and figured it out I was obsessed - there were so many cool things the vehicle could do, I’m heartbroken it didn’t work out comfort-wise. It would back itself out of a parking spot, and even backed out of my back yard where it is parked in the photo! It included a phone-as-key option with the app which was so convenient as the car would unlock upon approach, lock upon departure, and you could start it with just your phone present which was so convenient. It was a tighter fit as far as car seats go - this vehicle had a bench and I would have preferred captains chairs for easier third row access through the aisle. The car seat tilt was also only on one side and automated which was not as convenient with two car seats installed in the second row. The third row is rather small. The automated sunshades in the second row were really nice, as was the moonroof in the third row. I didn’t love the functionality of the drivers assistance technology, the lane keep assist was not very smooth and the car moved side to side a lot when trying to keep its lane, and it was difficult to find a vehicle that had adaptive cruise control as an option as it is not standard and that was a must for me.

I absolutely love the x7 performance wise. However, we have a bench with 2 rear facing car seats and it is so cramped. I cannot fit in the middle seat and the car seats are almost touching the driver/passenger seats. The 3rd row is really non-existent. And the airflow and air output in this car is very weak overall. The tech is not very intuitive as well.

All beauty with no brains. Of course she is gorgeous to look at which is what drew us to this car but man, does she have some issues. Turning radius is AWFUL! I was embarrassed every time I had to pull into a parking space between 2 cars and I had to do a 2-3 point turn. How is that possible for "the ultimate driving machine"!? She's fast AF though and comfortable to drive. However, I believe ours was a lemon as the parking brake would sporadically turn on while the CAR WAS IN MOTION. And I mean real motion, like 35+ mph. It was very scary especially with a baby in the car. It happened multiple times and they couldn't explain why so we wanted out. Also the tech is very difficult. There is just too much and it makes it so hard to use. But of course, the styling of the car is gorgeous both inside and out. The seats take forever to fold though as they are automatic with a switch. A big no go for me. I can see why people like it and would want it but I think there are much better options on the market. Or go with the X5 as the 3rd row is so small its basically useless and it will handle much better.

I have had this car for nearly 5 years. Ordered it exactly how we wanted it and I’ve been obsessed with it since. We test drove all other 3rd row luxury SUVs in the segment, for the absolute quality it beat all the others on value and even price at the time. I love this particular year as it still has the physical buttons that were lost with the “screen upgrades” in newer years. We shop new cars at least once a year and I cannot be made to let go of this car. Still, there is not another vehicle on the market that matches the tech, safety, reliability, luxury offerings, that tempts me to leap to a new car. I always leave saying my car is better.
