2022 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport

I really wanted to love this car. This is my third Volkswagen Atlas, but after this experience, we will be moving on to another brand once my lease is up. The car suddenly stopped moving while I was driving approximately 35 mph on a main road, which was incredibly frightening and dangerous. The dealership is claiming it was simply an electrical issue, but their only solution was to reset the computer. No actual repair or explanation was provided, leaving me with very little confidence that the underlying problem has been resolved. After driving my dad’s Hyundai Palisade, it also became obvious how many features and conveniences the Atlas is missing. I especially miss the V6 engine that my first two Atlases had. The current model does not drive nearly as smoothly. There are still a few things I like: the AWD is great, the panoramic sunroof is beautiful, and the interior makes a strong first impression. Unfortunately, those positives do not outweigh the serious safety concern, rougher driving experience, and limited features. After three Atlases, I’m extremely disappointed to be walking away from the brand.

This car is great in theory. I bought it brand new in 2024 and ended up selling it back to VW as a lemon in 2025. Mine developed A/C issues after only 1,200 miles that the dealer could never completely fix. Even when the dealer thought they “solved” the issue, I never felt like I got enough cold air given the design of the air vents in the front, and VW agreed to a complete buyback. I still don’t know whether it was a manufacturing defect or design issue. I live in Southern California which can get very hot. I’d recommend test driving on a warm day to ensure you get sufficient air flow for your liking. Otherwise, this car felt HUGE inside and was honestly unreal. The things I missed the most after getting rid of this car were the front console storage, door panel storage in all doors, leg room, and trunk space. I ended up in a luxury car and NONE I test drove compared in all of these areas. This car also felt a bit blah to drive, and I ultimately decided the way a car drives is very important to me, but perhaps if this is not important to you then you would not mind it. I did not like that the A/C buttons are built into the front screen and annoying to fiddle with when you’re driving. All in all, I clearly had a bad experience with my car so I am biased, but this car is worth looking at if space is your primary concern and you don’t mind a boring driving experience.

I adore the Atlas Crosssport! I had the 3rd row Atlas for a few years and while it’s a great, spacious vehicle, none of my children wanted to sit in the 3rd row. With 3 kids, they fit great in the bench row of the crossport and the greater trunk space is a win! The crossport is very stylish, comfortable and sleek. I love it!

Absolutely love my car! It’s my 2nd one! It was great for every day use before having kids and even more so with a 2.5y and 8mo old. We currently have a Nuna Pipa Lite Rx on the driver side and an Evenflow Revolve 360 Gold on the passenger side and both still allow for significant comfort for the front seat passengers. While the middle seat between the two isn’t HUGE it is still quite spacious and comfortably for our 50lb dog to fit when needed or for me during a road trip if the girls needed anything. My favorite part about the cross sport vs. the regular atlas is the more sporty trim and aesthetic of the car and the black wheel/trim package. We specifically have the 2024 SEL. Previously I had a 2021 R line Smooth drive. Massive trunk space and great technology. Not too simple but not too fancy either !

We love the atlas as a family vehicle. We have 2 car seats in the back seat with plenty of space for an adult to sit in the center of the backseat between the 2 car seats.

This was the first brand new car I ever purchased. It was a machine!! I drove this car 100 miles round trip everyday to/from work/daycare/home and it never gave me any serious issues. I only sold it after getting an electric vehicle but I still think about this car. It was so good, soo roomy, fit our carseats perfectly, never gave us any issues mechanic-wise. I can not say enough good things about this car. It will always be a fan favorite for me and if I would have had room at home to keep it when we purchased my other car, I would have kept this one as well.

This has been a wonderful 2 row midsize SUV. The space is unmatched. Plenty of leg room, car seat options, and cargo space. The second row is not on tracks, which makes it hard to reach but means incredible leg room. The biggest down side for us is that we need more seats now. Other than that, the technology can be clumsy. Sometimes it turns off and restarts. I do appreciate the mix of dials and touchscreen tech. We have three across - nuna rava RF, nuna rava FF, and a nuna urbn (baseless). We find the buckles, tether, and latch easy to access. The trunk sits up high, so might be hard for shorter people to lift strollers or crawl to the tether anchors. This isn’t a problem for us at 5’8 and 6’0.

I love the drive and space of my atlas cross sport. I downsized from a Tahoe and i am very pleased with the trunk space and passenger space i have. My 6’2” 275lb husband sits comfortably in the back seat. I REALLY miss having ceiling vents in the second row. My 2.5 year old is still rear facing and very sweaty here in Florida when i get her out of her seat. I love the interior and exterior styling of the car. There are nice comfort features. I have the premium R line so top trim level which gave me heated and cooled driver seats, premium sound system, massaging front seats, heated second row outboard seats. There is ample car seat space especially with the rear facing seat i am very impressed. I have had a few tech glitches with the front view cameras not showing on the screen. The wireless Apple CarPlay does glitch occasionally and lose connection until you shut the car off and turn it back on. I’ve taken it in for a couple recalls but no major issues. Overall i am very happy with this car and it’s great for 2 kids. I can fit a Costco hall along with a small stroller and travel potty easily in the trunk!!
