Features We Love

For 2022, the RAV4 gets a few small updates, but nothing that really changes how it functions for families. Most trims now come with slightly updated headlights, which are more of a styling change than a practical one. There’s also a new Cavalry Blue color option added to the lineup. On higher trims, LED fog lights are now standard,

  • Lower anchors on both outboard seats: two full LATCH positions on the sides, easy to access and straightforward installs
  • Top tether anchors across all three seats: you can run a forward-facing seat in any position, including the middle
  • Removable headrests help with installs: makes it easier to get a secure forward-facing fit without awkward positioning
  • Rear-facing fit is tight for taller drivers: with the driver seat set for me, I barely had clearance with an infant seat
  • Forward-facing installs are easy: anchors are accessible and the seat went in securely without a fight
  • Three-across is possible but very tight: not the easiest setup if you’re trying to fit multiple seats across
  • Door opening is a bit narrow: doable for loading an infant seat, just not the most convenient with a heavier baby
  • Hybrid option adds efficiency without extra effort: switches between gas and electric automatically, no plug-in needed, just takes a little getting used to while driving
Car Mom Review

The Exterior

Updated Design That Feels More Premium

Overall, I like the way it looks and it definitely leans more premium, but the proportions, especially that longer hood, might not be for everyone. The redesign gives it a more modern, slightly aggressive feel that stands out.

  • Sharper front end: more angular and a little more high-end than older RAV4s
  • Hybrid details: blue Toyota badging is a subtle but fun touch

Simple Side Profile With Functional Touches

From the side, it’s clean and not overly styled, which I don’t mind.

  • Black roof rails: great for extra storage if you need it
  • Subtle body lines: keeps it from feeling too plain without overdoing it

Busy Rear but Still Practical

The back has a bit more going on, but it still works.

  • More angles and chrome in the rear: not my favorite view, but it’s fine
  • Sloped rear glass with slight overhang: gives it a sportier look

Easy Size for Everyday Use

The shape is practical, which matters.

  • Good height for kids and loading: easy to get in and out
  • Compact overall size: manageable to drive and park

Premium look, practical size

First Row

Simple Interior That’s Easy to Use but Feels a Bit Clunky

The first row is very simple, and I don’t mind that from a mom perspective because it’s easy to clean. That said, some of the design feels a little random and not super refined, especially for the price point.

  • Lots of plastic surfaces: durable and easy to wipe down, but not the most premium feel
  • Some awkward design choices: random storage spots and layout pieces that don’t feel super intentional

Big Buttons and Straightforward Controls

Everything is really easy to use, which I do appreciate, but some of it feels oversized and a little outdated.

  • Large climate control knobs: very easy to adjust, but they take up a lot of space
  • Infotainment feels a bit dated: not the most modern system compared to competitors
  • Physical buttons for key features: heated steering wheel and other controls are easy to find and use

Solid Everyday Storage and Cupholders

There are enough places to put your things, and it works for daily life.

  • Two usable cupholders: fit a standard water bottle without an issue
  • Wireless charging pad: nice to have and easy to access
  • Small center console: fits the basics, plus a couple of USB ports

Good Features Where It Counts

Even though the design isn’t my favorite, it does have the features most people want.

  • Heated and ventilated seats: great for year-round comfort
  • Auto hold feature: super useful for stoplights, carpool lines, and drive-thrus
  • Strong safety tech: includes adaptive cruise control and other key features

Visibility Is Just Okay

This is one area I noticed right away.

  • Limited rear visibility: the back window shape and headrests get in the way
  • Digital rearview option: helps you see behind you clearly even with passengers or car seats back there

Second Row

This second row is where everything happens in the RAV4, and it’s a pretty typical setup for a two-row SUV. It works well for one or two kids, but space is something to be aware of as you start adding more seats.

Lower Anchors on Outboard Seats + Tether Anchors Across the Bench

You’ve got two full LATCH positions on the outboard seats, which is what we expect. There are top tether anchors in all three seating positions, so you can install a forward-facing seat on either side or in the middle.

  • Lower anchors on driver and passenger side seats: easy to access and use
  • Top tether anchors in all three positions: adds flexibility for forward-facing installs

Rear-Facing Fit Is Tight Behind a Tall Driver

Rear-facing is doable, but it’s a tighter fit than I’d like if you’re taller. With the driver seat set for me, I barely had clearance with an infant seat.

  • Minimal space behind the driver seat: especially with a larger infant seat
  • You may need to adjust your seat position: depending on your height

Forward-Facing Installs Are More Straightforward

Once you move to forward-facing, things get easier. The setup feels much more manageable and less cramped.

  • Anchors are easy to reach and tighten: installs feel straightforward
  • Removable headrests: help you get a better, more secure fit

Tight Three-Across + Narrow Door Opening

If you’re trying to fit multiple seats across, this is where you’ll feel the size limitations. It’s not impossible, but it’s definitely tight.

  • Three-across is possible but very snug: not a comfortable setup for most families
  • Rear door doesn’t open very wide: makes loading an infant seat a little harder, especially as your baby gets heavier

Third Row

No items found.
Works best for 1-2 car seats

Trunk

Trunk Space Is a Standout for This Size

This is where the RAV4 really shines. For a compact, two-row SUV, the trunk feels big and very usable. It’s one of those spaces where you immediately know it’s going to work for your day-to-day.

37.6 Cubic Feet Behind the Second Row Is Right in the Mix

With 37.6 cubic feet behind the second row, it lands right in line with other top options in this category.

  • Right there with CR-V (39.3) and Rogue (36.5): very comparable to the best in the segment
  • Bigger than CX-5 (31.4): you’re getting more usable space for strollers and gear
  • More practical than smaller options like Taos (27.9): better width and shape for real-life use

Stroller + Groceries Fit Without a Second Thought

This is the kind of trunk where you don’t have to think too hard about what you’re loading.

  • Fits a full-size stroller easily: no rearranging or forcing it in
  • Still room for groceries: this could handle a full grocery run, even a bigger haul
  • Wide, usable opening: easy to load and unload without fighting the space

Folded Seats Give You Even More Flexibility

When you need more room, it opens up in a really usable way.

  • 47.7 cubic feet with seats folded: great for trips or larger items
  • Seats fold down easily: quick to switch when you need the extra space

Simple Storage That Actually Helps

It’s not overcomplicated, but it has what you need.

  • Side storage cubby: good for smaller items you don’t want rolling around
  • Underfloor storage + spare tire: practical and easy to access

Safety

Strong Safety Ratings With Trim-Dependent IIHS Award

The 2022 RAV4 continues to perform well in safety testing, and certain trims can earn an IIHS Top Safety Pick when equipped with the upgraded headlights. This is one of those details that matters depending on how the vehicle is equipped.

Standard Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 Comes on Every Model

You’re getting a really strong set of safety features across the board, which I always like to see.

  • Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection
  • Adaptive cruise control (full-speed range)
  • Lane departure alert with steering assist + lane tracing assist
  • Automatic high beams + road sign assist

Blind Spot Monitoring and Parking Assist Add Extra Support

As you move up in trim, you get more help in everyday driving situations.

  • Blind Spot Monitor + Rear Cross-Traffic Alert: helpful in parking lots and busy areas
  • Available parking assist with automatic braking: can step in if you’re getting too close to something

Front Seatbelt Pretensioners Add an Extra Layer of Protection

This is one of those features you don’t see, but it matters.

  • Driver and front passenger pretensioners: built into the seatbelts to tighten instantly in a crash
  • Works with airbags: helps keep you in position and reduces forward movement

Updated Headlights Improve Visibility on Higher Trims

This is one of the small but meaningful updates for 2022.

  • Updated headlamp design on most trims: improves both styling and visibility
Car Seat Setup

Two LATCH Positions Outboard + Tether Anchors Across All Three Seats

You’ve got a solid, standard setup when it comes to anchors.

  • Lower anchors on both outboard seats: driver and passenger side positions
  • Top tether anchors in all three seats: you can install a forward-facing seat on either side or in the middle
  • Flexible for forward-facing installs: middle seat is an option because of that tether anchor

Rear-Facing Fit Is Tight Behind a Tall Driver

This is one of the biggest callouts.

  • Very limited clearance behind the driver: I could barely fit a finger between the seat and the car seat
  • Front seat position matters: you may need to move it up depending on your height
  • Still doable: just not the most spacious setup

Forward-Facing Installs Are Much Easier

Once you move out of rear-facing, this gets more straightforward.

  • Anchors are easy to access and use: installs feel simple and secure
  • Removable headrests: helps get a better, tighter fit for forward-facing seats

Three Across Is Possible but Not Comfortable

You can make it work depending on your seats, but it’s tight.

  • Very limited space across the bench: fitting three seats or sitting between them is a squeeze
  • Not ideal for daily use with multiple seats: especially if you need to access buckles

Door Opening Makes Loading a Bit Harder

This is something you notice quickly with an infant seat.

  • Rear door doesn’t open very wide: makes getting a car seat in and out more difficult
  • Manageable, but not easy: especially with a heavier baby

Overall Car Seat Takeaway

This setup works really well for one or two kids and gives you flexibility with forward-facing installs. Just know that rear-facing space is tighter, and once you start trying to fit multiple seats across, you’re going to feel the size of the vehicle.

Very comfortable, enjoyed the drive. Traded in 6 months after having our first baby due to tight front row leg room when the infant seat was in the back seat.

I have the plug in hybrid (Prime) version of this car and absolutely love it. It gets about 40 miles on the battery in warmer months and about 30 miles in the new england winter months. Great for a short daily commute to work. The car drives great and is nice and quiet. It's pretty spacious and comfortable for the size class with great trunk space. I do have to slide the front seats forward when installing car seats. Currently have a Graco 3-in-1 turn to me installed behind the driver seat for my rear facing 2.5 year old and an evenflo infant seat behind the passenger. The passenger has a little less leg room but is still comfortable enough for me at 5'8" with the seat pushed forward. My only complaint is the Bluetooth doesn't always connect to my phone, sometimes have to turn the car off and back in to get it to connect. The cupholders and center console could also be a little bigger but they work. I love this car and don't plan on getting rid of it anytime soon.

This was my first ever SUV. It was great before I became a mom, still great with one kid, but now with two in car seats it is feeling very tight in the second row. I think it is a great, reliable vehicle with all the necessary functions, however if you have a growing family I would recommend something bigger!

I’m loving my new RAV4 so far! The technology is great, it’s super comfortable, and there’s plenty of space in both the back seat and the trunk. The seats are a combination of SofTex and a suede-like material, which feels really nice. I’m hoping they hold up well and don’t get too dirty, but since the back seats aren’t heated, a car seat cover would be perfect for protecting them without losing any features. The gas mileage has also been great, and I have the XSE trim, so I’m really enjoying having AWD. Overall, it feels comfortable, practical, spacious, and still has plenty of nice features. I’m really happy with it so far!

Very reliable, no mechanical concerns. It's served us well for the past few years. However a growing family and three dogs definitely has us feeling cramped. The back seat is only designed for 2 passengers and you need to choose car seats wisely due to the limited space back there. We have switched car seats to leave more leg room for the adults in the front and even then it's still pretty tight feeling.

I knew we wanted a Toyota and had a limited budget. We have 3 kids with one in a booster. It is tolerable for them to be back there together, even on long rides (up to 4 hours!). School drop off and pickup is tight because of bags, but otherwise this is perfect for our family at this time!

As a tall family, once car seats are installed it makes the front row tight, especially with rear facing! But great car for 1 kid and probably 2

If you have a small family, it’s a great size. I have the hybrid, limited, and it gets incredible gas mileage and has all the bells and whistles I want - like heated seats and steering wheel, heated second row seats, AC front seats, panoramic sun roof, full 360 camera and great trunk space. But it’s small inside. I can fit my kid in the backseat with her car seat but two gets tight and 3 across would never fit. There isn't much leg room in the back either. And if my tall husband is in the passenger seat, there is no leg room behind him.

We love this car, especially as a new family with one child, it drives so smooth and feels incredibly safe. The technology is extremely user-friendly. My only complaint is that the cupholder situation could definitely be improved.

My family has loved taking this car on road trips with our first child. There's plenty of room in the backseat for me to comfortably pump on the go and it's a good size for diaper changes. The trunk is huge and we're able to travel for 1-2 weeks at a time with just the trunk space. We also have storage for over the car that we use when traveling for the holidays if we do need more space. We're excited to see how this continues to fit our family with two kids in rear facing car seats. The sound system isn't as good as my first car and it feels like there's more outside noise when driving on the highway. These aren't dealbreakers for us, but it did take some getting used to.

This car is great! It has excellent safety features and great Toyota reliability. It’s comfortable for my tall 7 year old daughter in the back and my 6 foot husband who has been sitting back there with our child for the whole 3 years I’ve had this car. This generation has the knobs still for climate control so I recommend this over the newer generation!

The car is a great car for families of older kiddos. The second row comfortably fits two forward facing car seats, but it will not fit a third seat, not even a booster. The trunk space is fantastic though. Could definitely use more air vents, it gets hot in the back! The cupholders up front are weirdly sized and I have trouble fitting cups.

I have loved the 2020 RAV4. The back seat is spacious, the driver’s seat is comfortable, and it does get good gas mileage.

I love this car! It’s reliable, sporty, and smooth driving. I bought this before I was pregnant, but it fits the stroller and all of our gear for taking a weekend trip. I wish there were better cupholders in the second row, but leg room is good (I’m 5’10). There are no overhead air vents. However, the car cools down very fast and I haven’t been concerned as a new mom. I love this car and I would like to own another one depending on how many kids we have. I can drive it into the city (Chicago) and cruise through the suburbs.

Fits 3 kids in back row perfectly, but needed to get compact carseats to make them fit. Performance is great, not many features included though, like you have to manually open and close the trunk but it’s not a deal breaker.

We bought this car once we decided we wanted to expand our family. I had a 2012 Lexus IS250 and knew we needed a bigger car. We absolutely love our Rav! I love feeling higher up (from my previous car), it makes me feel safer. We haven't had many issues with it either, mainly a faulty key that triggers the alarm, but other than that smooth sailing! Now that we're expecting baby #2 next month we may be maxing out of this car, but we'll see how it goes for now!

I used this car as a rental for a 4 day weekend with one child in a travel booster. As a driver, I enjoyed the technology and ease of use. Two downsides- it was hard to tell when the car was turned on/off. There was no clear indication. The second was the seatbelt in the back seat. The child using the seat belt in the back row was in a travel booster. The seatbelt buckle was wedged deep in the seat and could not be pulled up making it difficult for the child to buckle themselves. At one point another adult was in the back seat as well attempting to buckle the child and it was a struggle.

LOVE my RAV4. Has everything a good car needs, reliable and looks great! I have 3 kids in car seats and they all fit (regardless of what others may think!) The 2023 model has a glitch with the radio where it turns off randomly and won’t come back on for a day or week sometimes, and the exterior of the car in some spots are melting, yes, melting. Weird! All in all, fantastic car and first our whole family of 5 with a dog and travel bags!

Great new look and hybrid technology! The RAV4 finally has a facelift in the 2026 model. They updated the front end and went with current colors. It finally feels like we are driving a new car and this is our 3rd RAV4 lease. The hybrid tech is a nice feature, and in the first two months I have only needed to fill my gas tank once opposed to weekly. Fits three across! With three babies, four and under, we are still able to fit them all in the second row with an infant seat, booster in the middle, and slim seat. Great for daily school / daycare drop offs and also weekend trips. Great trunk space! One of the reasons we like the RAV4 is for the convenience of having a small-ish car and still fitting three kids, having the trunk space for a big stroller, exercise equipment, and the ability to still pick up groceries on the way home.

We love the RAV4! Soon to be mom of 3 and able to fit 3 across using 2 graco slimfit3 XL and the graco gomax baseless infant seat! It is definitely a tight fit but it works! The trunk has plenty of space which is so nice! However my husband is 6’4 and not super comfortable for him with the car seats installed. If we go somewhere all together we take his truck which has way more space!

I bought this car with plans for the future. I don’t have kids of my own yet but I have friends with kids and have been able to test out car seat installs many times through the years, especially while I nannied during grad school. I also have dogs and it’s great for them! I’ve even fit a 6ft dining table in the back with the seats down. However, if you’re tall you won’t be able to drive with said table because the seats had to be pretty far forward. The trunk is spacious with the seats up and easily fits Costco hauls, good will drops, all of my boxes when I moved. As far as strollers go I have regularly fit the Uppababy vista (seat and bassinet) and/or BOB jogging stroller with room to spare! I plan to keep this car until I need to upgrade to a 3rd row vehicle. I drive a lot and have put many miles on it but the reliability can’t be beat and even though I’m over 4 years and 68k miles of ownership at the time of writing this the car still has so many miles/years left.

The rav4 was great for prekids and for the first two years of my oldest’s life. We enjoyed the comfort, reliability and smooth ride. The drive is a bit noisier than others but we call that “white noise.” The downside is the space & storage. If you’re trying to fit 3 kids in the backseat…good luck. It seemed the middle seat was about 9inches wide. Car seats: I had my son in a evenflo dualshyft which worked but I became frustrated with it after month 5-6. The doors didn’t open up to a 90 degree angle which is hard with the evenflo dualshyft. So I switched him to a convertible Graco extend2fit. The extend2fit fit nicely rear facing and forward facing. The trunk is a decent size and could fit my stroller, Sam’s haul, and any other junk I had back there.

Backseat is very narrow in both directions. A car seat needs to be slim if you have a tall driver or passenger. An adult can sit in the back with a car seat but it is not comfortable. The trunk is an amazing size and my favorite part of the car. It’s a great reliable car for driver and one car seat.

I adore my RAV4! We’ve been together for 6.5 years now, which at this point feels like a committed relationship. 😂 She hauls all of our precious cargo: two boys, a dog, my husband, me, and approximately 47 bags for what was supposed to be “just a quick weekend trip.” She’s amazing for everyday mom life: school drop-off, pick-up, errands, Costco, road trips, & the daily hauling of everyone’s stuff. I can fit a double stroller in the trunk along with all of our usual belongings, snacks, random kid treasures & sticks, and of course, the essential emergency car potty. Because motherhood. We currently have 2 Evenflo Revolve Slim car seats, & previously used the Nuna Pipa. Both have fit really well. I’m 5’3” and can comfortably have a rear-facing seat behind me. My husband is 5’10”, though, & when the rear-facing seat is behind him, he has to scoot closer to the steering wheel than he would ideally like..so something to keep in mind if you have a taller driver. The tech is one of my fav parts. Toyota Safety Sense is great, and the digital rearview mirror- aka the “behind screen” as so my kids say. The bird’s-eye-view camera for parking is my “MUST HAVE”, especially when you’re trying to park while someone in the back is yelling that their snack broke in half. Heated seats & a heated steering wheel are also firmly in my “once you have them, you can never go back” category. We have the faux-leather ventilated seats, which are fantastic for spills, crumbs, sticky mystery substances, and the general destruction small children bring into a vehicle. They wipe down really easily. The one downside: sand LOVES getting stuck in those little ventilation holes, so if you’re a frequent beach or lake family, prepare to become intimately familiar with your vacuum. Overall, I absolutely love my RAV4. It has handled every stage of our family life so far-from infant car seats & strollers to school drop-offs and overpacked family adventures. It’s practical, easy to drive, & is reliable!

My RAV has been a very reliable vehicle. It’s great on gas, which helps save money, especially with how much we drive. It’s also very comfortable, making both short trips and long drives enjoyable. I feel safe and confident driving it, and overall, it has been a dependable vehicle for me and my family.

Our RAV4 works fine but with serious drawbacks for kids. Our infant seat + base don’t fit behind my 5’11 husbands seat. As a 5’4 person, it went behind me as passenger and required me to have the seat much farther up than I was comfortable with. It is not our primary car for this reason. With a convertible seat my husband has a slight bit of room to adjust his seat, but the infant seat up was terrible for us.

The RAV4 is a nice compact SUV, but for taller drivers or passengers, and those with rear facing car seats, it gets tight fast. The trunk space can hold a full size stroller, and that’s about it. Gas mileage is great, comfort is okay. Reliable, but glitchy tech.

We bought this car for our 16 year old and it's been great. We had an old Sequoia we were planning to give her, but it didn't have any of the safety features which was important to us, especially with her as a new driver. We love Toyotas and the size was great for her. We got the XLE so it has some nice features. She has been driving it for 7 months now and has been very happy with it.

Used the RAV4 for a weekend- we installed 2 RF seats which fit nice however does not give the front passengers tons of space and was tight in the middle seat as an adult. We installed RF graco extend2fit and a Joie mint latch. So glad we had the mint latch because I had to sit in the middle, I got in first then had someone install baby in the mint latch or I wouldn’t have gotten in! Comfy for a short drive but not ideal. Truck space is excellent.

Our RAV4 has been perfect for us in this stage of life. I bought it before we were married and now we have 1 kid. The leg room in the passenger seat was a little tight with the infant car seat (I’m 5’8”) but manageable. Now that we have switched to a convertible car seat (Britax Poplar) we have more space and road trips are more comfortable. When we have another kid we will probably be in the market for a bigger car because we do a lot of longer road trips with our dog, but will keep the RAV4 for local travel! I think it will be tight but doable with two kids.

Car works great for one or two kids. We have a Nuna car seat (rear facing) which is pretty deep so the seats don’t sit all the way back, but it’s not a problem for me (5’3”). My husband is 6’7” and he comfortably fits in the drivers seat. He’s a little crammed in the passenger seat just because of the rear facing car seat. The trunk size is amazing. I’ve had no service issues in all of the years of ownership. I recommend the hybrid for the regenerative braking and amazing gas mileage. It’s the perfect commuter car.

Love! Love! Love! Very spacious trunk. I’ve had great reliability, only had typical maintenance (oil, brakes, tires, etc). I love that it doesn’t feel too big and is easy to maneuver. Doesn’t have the most up to date tech(has a screen but not the infotainment you will see in today’s model), but for me that’s not a drawback - less distractions and less to worry about. It does have the safety features most modern vehicles have (lane warnings, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, etc). I love that it has dedicated knobs/buttons for the volume controls and air controls. I love the power lift gate, and don’t think I’ll get another vehicle without it. It gets fantastic gas mileage! On trips, I have gotten around 40-44 mpg average. And daily driving in town, I frequently get 30-35 mpg. I get better gas mileage in this than I did in the Chevy Spark I owned before it. We don’t have AWD, but we have frequently taken this to the creek and up and down the off-road road to get there, and never struggled to make it. There have only been a few instances a year where AWD would be useful, and that wasn’t enough to make the price increase and mpg loss worth it. One of my few complaints is that if there is any weight or anyone sitting in the back outboard seats, the middle seat has to be buckled. The seatbelt alarm always goes off in the middle seat (even if no one is sitting there) when there is weight in the outside seats.

I love my 2025 Toyota Hybrid RAV4 XSE! It’s drives super smooth, has great safety features, and gets amazing gas mileage. I am thankful to have gotten the last model before the redesign for the 2026 RAV4 because I’m not a fan of the new style. I think the XSE is very sporty looking, which I like. I currently have 1 child and plan to have 1 more, and I think it’ll be a good fit for us with car seats and comfortability. My husband also has the same exact car but in a different color because we love it so much.

I drove this car in college. I “upgraded” from my 2017. This one was a little more stylish in the interior and had some updated technology, but I did prefer my 2017… this one beeped at everything! But the size and shape of both Rav4s was really perfect for a young driver!

This car does it all. I have ad this car from being a dog mom to being a mom of two. Great gas mileage, very comfortable and always reliable. With the two kids, the back seat now belongs to them and is tight but we rarely have to carry anyone else beside our family of 4.

I absolutely loved this car. Bought it as my first mom car before even having a baby. It has a lot of trunk space and it felt roomy. I didn’t have a hybrid and my MPG was about 28. About a year and a half later I had my baby and realized that it’s not ideal for multiple children which is what we want. We had the Chicco key fit 35 infant car seat and I hated sitting in the front passenger seat because I had to have the seat either close to the dashboard or sitting straight up, so I sat in the back for a whole year. Baby stuff is so bulky, when we would drive for a weekend trip, we had stuff packed in the trunk, backseat and front seat; so the space ran out. We definitely could’ve put stuff on the roof rack but didn’t. We ended up upgrading to a bigger car, I was sad to sell my RAV4 but we needed more space.

I love this car and would keep it forever if we planned to stop at 1 kid. My husband is 6’5”, and we have the Evenflo Revolve 360 Slim behind the passenger seat. If the 3 of us are in the car together, my husband has to drive or is pretty uncomfortable in the passenger seat. The trunk space is good for the 3 of us when traveling with a stroller and pack n play. I can easily fit a week’s worth of groceries and the full size stroller in the trunk. I had the Joie Mint as an infant seat, that worked fantastically, and we didn’t have the space issue with the passenger seat that we do now. Toyota infotainment is never impressive, but the car is reliable, I get 34-36 mpg year round with the hybrid, and the trunk is huge for the size of the car. With shorter drivers or more compact front to back car seats, I think it could be great for 2 kids.

My RAV4 has been the perfect transition vehicle for our family, starting as a primary car for my husband and me before we had our first baby and now as a family of three. The trunk space is all we need right now and comfortably manages road trips and daily drives well. We do tend to use second row space for luggage on longer trips but that works with just one kiddo in a car seat for the time being. The biggest downside is we’ve definitely noticed less passenger space now that we have a rear facing car seat (Nuna Rava) installed. It’s a minor inconvenience for now but something we’re thinking about when we decide to grow our family in the future. I’ll be so sad to give the Rav up when we need to though. It’s been so reliable and hasn’t required anything beyond regular maintenance/upkeep as we’ve put more and more miles on it. The drive can be a bit loud, but honestly the road noise put my infant to sleep nearly every time we hopped in the car the first year so it’s a pro to me now. Very much love my Rav and would recommend for small families just starting to grow or as you’re transitioning to forward facing seats and getting some of that second row space back.

I purchased my Rav4 Hybrid in 2019 with the intent for it to be our first "family car". I loved the black and white exterior color and specifically looked for a hybrid for my short commute. I was in love with this car! We had no kids and one month after purchasing our Rav4 we found out we were expecting twins - surprise! I was a little worried that we had outgrown this car before we'd even begun but I was thankfully wrong. This served as a great car for having 2 little ones. The trunk of this car is very large, much larger than similar "smaller" SUVS. I had no issues fitting my larger double strollers in the back. 2 Infant car seats in the back was a squeeze but I could wedge myself back between them if I really needed to in a pinch. Once my twins graduated out of infant seats I opted for Diono Radion slim car seats. They were slim and fit well but those seats are so dang heavy!! They're a pain to lift in and out of the car for cleaning. I wish I looked for other slim fit car seats options because the Diono is not the best. I got anywhere from 35-40mpg on average and loved the sporty drive of this car. The size worked well for our family of 4 for everyday trips. My husband has a full size truck that we used for road trips or when we needed more trunk storage. When we decided to have a 3rd child I was honestly so sad that we had to sell the Rav4 and purchase a different vehicle. I would highly recommend this car for anyone with 1-2 kids who needs space for a larger stroller or big grocery order, and I'd throw a pod on top for road trips if I were you because you can't beat the gas mileage on the Toyota Hybrids!

This was my first "mom car" and then surprise my first baby was twins. We outgrew it much faster than expected because of this. It worked great for two kids in carseats. We used nuna ravas and loved them in this car. I could squeeze in the middle seat if needed while my husband was driving but it was very tight. Loved the big truck space for on-the-go diaper changing, double strollers, and big costco hauls.

This car was so stylish! I loved it as my first mom car. The trunk space was amazing the tech was sleek (did not like the auto on off for echomode but could turn off). Going from a sporty 2 door pre kids to this was a great transition. It worked great for 2 kids in car seats. I am 5'2 and had room for RF car seats. I don't know if this would be the case with anyone over 5'7. You definitely could only fit 4 people total comfortably and for sure only 2 carseats in the back unless you have the slimmest of car seats and to my when I was having my third was not worth it. I do wish it had more air vents, none were actually for the second row at all.

We got this car right before our first baby. I kind of regret it to be honest. We should have gotten something bigger. It’s really tight with a rear facing carseat in the back. The back seat in general is pretty small. As someone who gets motion sick, I hate being in this car unless I’m the one driving. If we didn’t have a rear facing car seat and had one or two older kids, it would probably be great. It’s really used a second car for us. Never taken on road trips or with more than 3 passengers.

The RAV4 is a great little SUV if you’re looking for something compact, reliable, and easy to drive. It’s definitely on the smaller side, but that also makes it easy to park and maneuver. It worked really well for us with one or two car seats and had enough space for our needs at the time. It’s not the vehicle I’d recommend for a larger family, but for one or two kids, it’s a great option. Most importantly, it was incredibly reliable and dependable!

This is my mom’s car, and she regularly drives my toddler around and has his whole life. I’m not sure if it was the specific car seats we have (Chicco), but I felt there was just not enough room in the car to accommodate a car seat in the back and passengers in the front. It was fine if no one sat in the front seat though. Back seat passenger princesses only

Love this car! We only have one kid. He’s in the Britax Poplar rear facing and there’s still plenty of room. I’m not worried about adding another car seat eventually. My only complaint about the car is that the Apple CarPlay frequently doesn’t work. I have to plug it in and probably 40% of the time the car doesn’t detect it, and the only way to get it to work is to turn for car off and on. Sometimes I have to restart it 3 or 4 times. It’s super annoying.

I love my Rav 4. It is missing a lot of the technology such as lane assist but I believe that’s mainly due to the year I have. I can comfortably fit 2 kids car seats in the back (I have Evenflo slim revolves) and have sat between the seats as well (that’s a little tight). I don’t feel like my or my husbands knees are close to the dash even with our rear facing seats.

I absolutely love my Toyota hybrid! I average around 40 MPG, and after 93,000 miles, it has been incredibly reliable. I’ve never had any issues with my car, which is probably one of the biggest reasons I see myself sticking with Toyota hybrids in the future. I’m not super techy, so it has everything I personally need. I use Apple CarPlay, and I actually really like that the air conditioning controls are separate physical buttons instead of being built into the touchscreen. I’m sure the technology probably feels a little outdated compared to some other brands, but that honestly doesn’t bother me. One of my favorite things about the car is the Lunar Rock exterior color. I absolutely love it, especially paired with the gray interior. The SofTex seats and plastic interior features have also been great with kids because everything is so easy to wipe down and clean. For everyday life, it has plenty of room for our family. However, I bought this car before having kids, and I definitely didn’t consider how much space rear-facing car seats take up! With a rear-facing seat behind the driver and the driver’s seat adjusted for my 6-foot husband, it can get pretty tight. I think choosing a car seat that is compact front-to-back makes a big difference in this vehicle, and I wish I had researched that more before buying my daughter’s Graco 3-in-1. That being said, we make it work. Packing for week-long trips can also be a little tight, but we’re still in the baby/toddler phase where traveling means pack ’n plays, strollers, and what feels like half the house, so I don’t necessarily blame the car for that! Overall, I genuinely love this car. It’s comfortable, practical, easy to clean, incredibly reliable, and the fuel economy is hard to beat. After owning a hybrid, I really don’t want to go back to a regular gas vehicle. When it’s eventually time for something bigger, I’ll most likely stay with a Toyota hybrid—probably a Grand Highlander Hybrid.

I’ve rented RAV4s for work frequently over many model years and always enjoy the rental. I feel the car drives well and is spacious for a small crossover. I have used the back seat and feel it is comfortable. This vehicle is on my potential purchase list because of the great rental experiences.

This is an easy, smooth drive and great on gas. Tech is nice or standard, knobs and buttons for easy use. Plug-in car play. I would recommend it but not to a family, at least not one with multiple young kids. We had an infant seat and now a forward facing car seat in it. It’s always been tight, I don’t know what Kelly sees with it being a good car seat option. My husband is 6’2” so I understand that plays a big part but yes seats have to be adjusted to properly fit the car seat and even now I’m always bumping my daughters head getting her in, there’s just not a lot of space. Also, the cup holders are terrible. They are extremely deep so cups with a handle don’t fit and they’re so deep that a medium coffee completely sits inside the cup holder making you have to pick it up from the top at the lid. I’ve spilled so many coffees and drinks.

Great gas mileage as it is a hybrid. Very spacious 2nd row. Built in lay flat charging spot with ridges so your phone doesn’t fly around. Easy to navigate the tech, large moon roof. Extra hidden storage in the trunk. Lots of charging stations.

I absolutely love my Toyota RAV4 and honestly don’t have any major complaints. It’s very comfortable for me as the driver, has plenty of space for everyday needs, and the trunk is a great size, especially when you have kids and all the things that come with them. It’s also been very reliable, and being a hybrid, it gets great gas mileage, which is a huge plus. My only downside now is that I’ve become a mom of two, so we have two car seats in the back, and that makes it pretty tight for me to sit in the middle. I could have chosen slimmer car seats for my kids, which would have made it a little easier, but when I bought my first child’s car seat, I honestly wasn’t thinking ahead about needing two car seats someday. For now, though, the RAV4 works great for our family. In a few years, we’ll probably upgrade to something a little bigger as the kids get older, but for a family with two young kids, I’m still very happy with it. It’s comfortable, practical, reliable, and great on gas. Overall, I would definitely recommend it!

The 2013 Toyota Rav4 XLE is very basic. No fancy bells and whistles but it does have electronic locks/windows. We have to manually change the seat position when needed. The hood design causes water to roll off, hit the bumper and splash up on the windshield when it rains (this is super fun in oregon lol). Love the eco/normal/sports modes. The 2nd row has the belt path crossover making this a four person car PERIOD. You can never safely have 3 passengers in the 2nd row even without carseats. With my 6'5" husband in the driver seat, there is about 3 inches of space between the backseat bench and back of the driver seat. We could never rear face children on the driver side for this purpose. There is excellent trunk space. It handles well in the snow/rain. We have towed with it before and it tows well. It has been in two rear impact accidents and one side impact accident. It crumpled well how it should and passengers were unharmed. Two were low speed (less than 10mi/hr) one higher speed around 25mi/hr. Air bags did not deploy in any of these incidents. This would be an excellent 3 family car 4 family is max. No major mechanical issues!

I loved my RAV4 and was so sad when it was totaled. We had it with 1-2 children in car seats and it was amazing. Very easy to install car seats due to the flat design of the bench, and the trunk was very spacious. I love the reliability of Toyota and the way that it drove! The only downside is that you can’t sit in the back if two car seats are installed

Love how the car handles, good turning radius, decent trunk storage. Gas mileage is awesome. Used the aria car seat and now the cybex Callisto and both fit decently! If you’re over 6 feet tall the passenger front seat might be a tight fit (assuming the car seat is back passenger side) but overall I love this car and won’t go back to non hybrid ever again!

It’s a great car for 1-2 kiddos, although not a lot of clearance with car seats installed and a tall driver/passenger. Trunk space is pretty good for strollers, wagons, etc. Tech is underwhelming.

My mom drives this car. When we visit, it can be a tight fit for two kids, one is in a high back booster and one in a forward facing convertible. I have a smaller frame, and it’s a tight fit for my to sit in the middle of the two seats. The trunk space is decent. The car does get warm in the 2nd row in the summer.

Reliable car and works great for 1 kid. Large car seat and tall driver makes backseat legroom very tight.

As a family of 3, we love our RAV4. We purchased it a few years before having our daughter, but there was always the intention of having a larger more family friendly car when we did go car shopping. In the climate I’m in (harsh midwestern winters) the RAV4 is a real winner. I went from a Honda Accord that really struggled and am continuously amazed every year when I drive the Rav. The tech specs are good enough for me, it’s not an incredibly technologically forward car (or car brand) but I tend to prefer that while driving to minimize distractions. It does have CarPlay and android auto which helps. Outside of routine maintenance and one set of tires, we haven’t spent a single cent on anything car/wise. It’s been incredibly reliable and has brought no issues in the 5 years we’ve been driving it. The only gripe I have is the middle seat in the second row, it’s not a usable space. If you have two car seats it’s a 4 seat vehicle. You can squeeze 3 people back there with a single car seat but I don’t know how safe it is.

I really love our rav! We have a 2024 XLE hybrid and we probably get about 35 mpg This will be fine for two kids, but sometimes my 5’ 10” husband says he is not comfortable sitting in front of the rear facing car seat because he can’t have the seat as far back as he’d like. We specifically got the Britax popular for the most compact seat possible. My two year old is still a bit reclined but not too much. I am 5’ 5” and feel like I have enough room when I sit in front of my child. But there is still a lot of room for adults to sit back there comfortably! We also got the weather package from the dealership which included the custom rubber mats for the trunk the second row and the first row, heated steering wheel, and heated window shield wipers. The floor mats alone are one of my favorite features of the car, I would totally recommend getting them from the dealership from the gecko versus later on aftermarket. I do totally recommend this car to friends, with the small caveat of not having the most second row legroom. And packing up the trunk for a family of four with a stroller will be difficult in my future - but it’s a great “first kid car” and also “dad car”, aka it’ll fit the kids but also not be the main family vehicle

Love the tech and all of the cameras. Makes driving around the city and parking in tight spaces a breeze. I have a Hybrid so I get ~35 mpg. Trunk space is good for my everyday needs. I can fit a double stroller easily with room to spare. I do wish it had better back seat ventilation - just the two in the bottom back of center consol. The large display and safety feature are really helpful. I have two kids in forward facing seats - they fit well but definitely no room for a third person with our Evolve 360 car seats.

It’s a fun, sassy car! Sporty for a fun mom! My RAV4 has been very reliable. I have had ZERO problems with it! My grandkids love it! The 2nd row seat is great my grands, one forward facing and one rear facing! Great job Toyota!

Good size trunk space, not too tight for back seat. Only bummer is that the passenger seat is a little high so taller people are pretty close to the ceiling of the car. Wish passenger seat was a power seat like the driver seat too. We have 2 car seats in the back and we just fit in the car. If you had someone with long legs, it would be hard to put the seat far enough back without the car seats being in the way. I am short and my husband has shorter legs so we are fine but wish we had a bigger car we could afford. Day to day we are so happy with the car but packing the car for trips and stuff gets tight and we can never have another person in the car with us.

I love my Rav4! I bought in my late 20's planning for this to be my mom car. It will fit 2 car seats easily, which aligns with the number of kids my husband and I are planning on having. One thing I did not consider before having a kid, there are no ceiling air vents. If I ever need to buy a new family car this will be a consideration I look for. Happy to have such a reliable and stylish car to transport my young family.

I have really enjoyed my RAV 4 Hybrid over the last few years. I have 2 school-aged children who are out of car seats. My main priorities were 1. reliable 2. hybrid 3. cute 4. trunk that can fit dogs and 5. within my budget. The RAV 4 Hybrid checked those boxes for me. It drives great, it's small enough to fit into smaller parking spaces, and it has great gas mileage. It doesn’t feel as luxurious or as up-to-date on tech as some other comparable vehicles, but it has what I wanted (auto hold, Apple CarPlay, electric tailgate, heated seats). My biggest cons are that the cupholders are far too small, and the infotainment system is ugly and not user friendly - not really an issue if you use CarPlay. At 5'7" I fit comfortably in the driver's seat, but often hit my head on the door frame! I’m overall very happy with my purchase and would recommend this car to others if they're looking for something similar.

My mom bought this car new in 2024. I drive it all the time with 1-3 kids in it. It does 3 across with slim seats well. It is fun to drive! And full efficient. I just HATE the interior door handle placement, it makes it hard to open the doors from inside. The passenger doors do not open to 90°, or very close, so it can be a pain to get seats in and out. But overall, this is a fabulous car for 2 kids and works well with 3. Tons of space in the trunk for double stroller and groceries.
