2022 Chevrolet Blazer
For 2022, the Chevrolet Blazer made the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine standard and discontinued the L and 1LT trims. Chevrolet also added new exterior color options and expanded the availability of contrasting-color roofs.
The Blazer feels surprisingly practical for a sporty-looking five-passenger SUV, especially when it comes to rear-facing car seat space and everyday family usability.
- Best-in-class rear-facing clearance: I was honestly so impressed by how much room there was behind my driver’s seat with a rear-facing car seat installed. At almost six feet tall, I still had several extra inches to move my seat back comfortably.
- Easy LATCH setup: There are lower anchors on both outboard second-row seats, which makes installing car seats straightforward and really family-friendly.
- Full top tether coverage: Chevy included top tether anchors across the back row, so you have flexibility depending on where you’re installing forward-facing seats.
- Actually comfortable second row: For two passengers or two car seats, this felt really roomy and comfortable with excellent legroom and headroom.
- Helpful second-row storage: I liked having rear air vents, USB and USB-C ports, plus little side cubbies for kid stuff and snacks.
- Functional trunk space: The trunk fit my single BOB stroller easily, and I still had room to work with, which is always a huge win in a two-row SUV.
The Exterior
Sportier Than Your Typical Family SUV
The thinner headlights, blacked-out badging, and harsh body lines give it a younger, more athletic feel without being over-the-top. I also think Chevy did a really good job making this feel fun while still keeping it practical enough for families.
The Black Exterior Details Make It Feel Modern
I normally prefer body-colored trim, but I actually think all the black elements really work on the Blazer. The thinner headlights, blacked-out badging, and sharp body lines make it feel younger and more athletic.

Even with the sporty styling, this still feels really functional for families. It’s easy to get in and out of, manageable to park, and still has enough room for car seats and a stroller without feeling oversized.
First Row
I actually thought the first row of the Blazer was really comfortable for a smaller two-row SUV. The seats felt supportive, I had great headroom, and everything felt simple and easy to use without being overly complicated.
The Tech Feels Straightforward And Easy To Use
The Blazer’s tech setup is definitely more basic, but honestly, that may be a good thing for a lot of families. I liked having Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the physical buttons made everything easy to navigate while driving.

I thought the front row had a good amount of useful storage for everyday family life without feeling cluttered.

Some Of The Controls Sit In An Awkward Spot
One thing I didn’t love was that some of the climate controls were tucked underneath an overhang, making them a little hard to see while driving. I did really like the air vent controls though because they were quick and simple to adjust.
Second Row
The second row of the Chevy Blazer impressed me way more than I expected, especially when it came to rear-facing car seat space behind a tall driver. For a five-passenger SUV, this is one of the better setups I’ve seen for families needing car seats without sacrificing front row comfort.

Trunk
The Chevy Blazer has one of the more usable trunks in the five-passenger SUV category, especially for families who still need stroller space without driving a huge vehicle. Kelly was able to fit a single BOB stroller easily, and there was still room left to work with.
With 31 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row, the Blazer lands ahead of smaller options like the Bronco and Equinox while staying competitive with more premium SUVs like the BMW X3.
Hidden Storage Helps Keep Family Gear Organized
Under the trunk floor, Chevy included extra storage cubbies that work really well for things like extra clothes, sports gear, emergency supplies, or keeping messy items separated from the main cargo area.

According to the IIHS, the 2022 Chevy Blazer received “Good” ratings in the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side impact, roof strength, and head restraints and seats tests.
The Blazer was not named an IIHS Top Safety Pick for 2022 due to headlight ratings that varied by trim level.
