I bought this car used with 30K miles on it when I had my first baby earlier this year. It replaced a 2008 RAV4 which I'd loved over 18 years and 163K miles, but I wanted the latest safety features with my little one in tow. I considered getting a midsize 3-row SUV, but after test driving a Grand Highlander it just felt bigger to drive than I wanted.
The star of the show for this CR-V is the back seat. There is more leg room than most mid-size SUVs, the center hump is almost non-existent, the latch anchors are so easy to access for car seat installation, and the lack of seat belt overlap makes it easy for all 3 seats to buckle even with a car seat installed. It's a tight fit to have all three back seats occupied, but with only one (very young) kid this happens only occasionally and for short drives with visitors. I also love that the back doors open to a full 90 degrees; it makes accessing Little One in her car seat easy.
I sprang for the top-of-the-line Sport Touring trim, and the leather seats are both comfortable and easy to keep clean. I love having driver seat memory, heated front seats and steering wheel, and the kick sensor for hands free opening of the liftgate. I'm averaging 36 MPG with the hybrid drivetrain in Eco mode in my mountainous rural area, which is great for a vehicle this size.
The infotainment system is admittedly nothing special, but I'm a bit of a luddite and it has everything I really need (wireless Apple CarPlay that works consistently and a Sirius XM interface that's easy to navigate). I like having physical climate controls pulled out from the infotainment. I LOVE the style of the honeycomb detailing on the vents in the cockpit, but wonder how the piano black front grill and interior detailing will hold up over time. I think this car looks great on the exterior with clean lines and a boxier, more truck-like look than a lot of its competitors.
I am loving this car and plan to drive it at least 3 years, until we're ready to go full EV.
