2021 Ford Expedition / Max

Features We Love
  • Elite Car Seat Setup: This is one of the best car seat configurations in a full-size SUV. You get lower anchors and tether anchors in the second row (including the middle seat with the bench), plus two sets of lower anchors and three tether anchors in the third row. Not all competitors offer lower anchors back there, so this flexibility is huge for growing families.
  • Truly Spacious Third Row: The third row is actually adult-friendly. There’s real legroom, ceiling vents, USB ports on both sides, multiple cupholders, and even reclining seats. It doesn’t feel like a punishment to sit back there.
  • Massive Cargo & Storage Space: Even the regular wheelbase version offers impressive trunk space, and the Expedition Max adds 12 extra inches just to the cargo area. Power-folding seats, huge door cubbies, and an oversized center console make this a storage dream.
Car Mom Review

The Exterior

Exterior: Big, Muscular, and Confident

The Expedition has a classic, no-nonsense look. It’s muscular, a little sporty, and definitely more truck-inspired than your typical “mom SUV.”

  • Bold Ford grille
  • Strong, sharp beltline
  • Available power-deploying running boards
  • Chrome roof rails
  • Clean, simple rear design

It’s boxy — but that’s exactly how you get this much interior space. Nothing about it feels over-designed or flashy. It just looks strong.

Big, muscular and confident!

First Row

Driver’s Seat: Big Comfort, Big Storage

Sitting in the driver’s seat, you immediately notice how wide and comfortable it is. It honestly feels more like a comfortable office chair than a typical SUV seat.

Visibility is excellent. You sit up high, the windows are wide, and you feel totally in control of the road.

Now let’s talk storage — because this is where the Expedition shines.

  • Massive door cubbies
  • Four cupholders within reach (not including side storage)
  • Huge center console (fits a Venti Starbucks, phone, and more with room to spare)
  • Extra cubbies everywhere
  • Large glove box

Everything is oversized — and that’s exactly what families need.

The infotainment screen is smaller than some competitors, and the interior design leans more functional than flashy. But remember: you’re paying for size and capability here. Compared to other full-size SUVs in this class, it holds its own.

Second Row

Second Row: Room for Days

At six feet tall, I have an unbelievable amount of legroom in the second row — even with the seat set for myself up front.

Amenities include:

  • Ceiling vents (huge win)
  • USB-A, USB-C, and 12V outlet
  • Rear climate control
  • Heated second-row seats (on certain trims)
  • Media controls

The Expedition is available with captain’s chairs or a bench. Both options are excellent.

Car Seat Set Up:

If you care about car seat compatibility, this is where the Expedition gets exciting.

With captain’s chairs:

  • Lower anchors and tether anchors in both second-row seats

With the bench:

  • Lower anchors and tether anchors in every second-row seat

Third row:

  • Two sets of lower anchors
  • Three tether anchors

Not all competitors offer lower anchors in the third row (looking at you, Tahoe), so this flexibility matters.

It also features a car-seat-friendly tilt. If your seat is installed using LATCH, the seat can tilt and slide forward without uninstalling the car seat. That makes third-row access so much easier.

Rear-facing car seats? No problem. There is tons of clearance.

Third Row

Third Row: Truly Adult-Friendly

This is where the Expedition separates itself.

The third row:

  • Fits three passengers
  • Has real legroom
  • Includes ceiling vents
  • Has USB ports on both sides
  • Features multiple cupholders

And the seats recline.

Yes — recline.

Even with the second row pushed back, I still had room. With the second row moved forward slightly, I could comfortably sit back there as a full-size adult.

No items found.

Trunk

Cargo Space: Regular vs Max

The Expedition comes in two sizes:

  • Regular
  • Expedition Max (12 inches longer — all added to cargo space)

Even the regular version impressed me. I was able to fit a stroller behind the third row. Fold the seats down (power-folding, by the way), and you’re looking at a massive cargo area.

You can even fold the second-row seats from the trunk.

Safety

The 2021 Ford Expedition comes standard with Ford Co-Pilot360 across all trim levels, which means you’re getting key safety features like automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-keeping assist right out of the gate. It also earned a 5-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA, which is always reassuring in a full-size family SUV. As you move up in trims, you can add even more advanced features like a 360-degree camera system, adaptive cruise control, and Pro Trailer Backup Assist — which is especially helpful if you’re planning to tow.

As someone who has “bigs” aka teens and “lils” 2 under 3 … this has been a dream. We have the expedition max and carpool two other big kids twice a week. We use this for car camping, road trips, snow mountain runs, and all the needs! Jumping from two to 4 kids in under two years left us with few options but bought used and have LOVED IT. We put the two year old in the back (third row) and the 1 year old rear facing in second row but diagonal so they can talk to each other. The teen either ride front seat passenger and bucket second when going to school or Without the other parent as there is no fighting over heated seats that way 😂 easy to buckle kiddo in third row but I am 5’10” only draw back is sometimes the apple car play is “picky” but we have work arounds. Yes it’s not as “cool” looking as the suburban same year but they’re less price used and honestly my girlfriend has to always replace her engine in her suburban same year and thankfully mine has had zero issues. I also felt like it drove smoother … and somehow felt wider. Im a huge fan!

We’ve been really impressed with our 2025 Ford Expedition MAX Platinum. With three kids, having the extra space makes a huge difference, and this SUV has been incredibly comfortable and practical for our family. We currently have one child in a forward-facing car seat and another in a booster, and there’s still plenty of room for everyone to sit comfortably. The MAX gives us the extra cargo space we need for strollers, bags, groceries, and all the other stuff that comes with having kids. The ride is smooth and comfortable, and the Platinum trim feels incredibly nice without sacrificing the practicality we need as a family. There’s plenty of room for the kids, and the interior makes longer drives much more enjoyable. Overall, we absolutely love it. If you have a larger family and want something that feels spacious, comfortable, luxurious, and still family-friendly, the 2025 Expedition MAX Platinum is a great choice. It’s been a fantastic vehicle for our family and has made traveling with three kids so much easier.

We love this Expedition. With a 5-year-old and a 3-year-old in the captain's chairs, and grandparents visiting often, the access is the real win — everyone can get into the second or third row without a production, and we can move a kid back there when we need to. The interior is extremely comfortable and genuinely convenient, and it's utilitarian in a way we like. Gas mileage is good enough for what it is. It does drive like a truck. My husband likes that; I'd prefer something softer. Coming from a Volvo XC90, the ride height is a big jump — I'm 5'4" and I've slipped on the running boards getting in more than once, which feels genuinely unsafe. Even with my own memory seat setting (it's my husband's primary vehicle), I still feel short behind the wheel. One small miss: there's no good spot for a phone on the passenger side.

Love middle row bench seats can move on there own. The flexibility of carseats. Minus having my 4 year old in the middle on the second row her feet would be on the boot. Other then that. This has been a big upgrade from a subaru ascent going from 2 to 3 kids. I got the Max. I roll around with a stroller. And have the 4 yr old in the 3 rd row. And we still can fit a full costco trip in. So roomie.

The Expedition Max Limited/Stealth/Performance Package(second row bench) so far has been a great fit for my family. I have 2 kids both in car seats. My previous car was a 2015 Navigator L with a bench and I was hesitant on going to 2nd row bucket seats but am happy with my choice looking into the future use of this car. I do a lot of extra kid pickups and drop offs and it has made it easier for a quick load up and exit now that nobody has to get out of their seat for anyone to get to the 3rd row. My least favorite feature of this car is the large screen and the limited buttons on the dash. I would have preferred the half screen and more climate controls buttons but it wasn’t an available find with also wanting the limited performance package(which by the way has some scoot!)

I have owned 2 expeditions. I traded in my 2018 expedition for my 2020 expedition max. I absolutely love the space, how it drives, the display is easy to navigate and not overwhelming. Being a passenger is comfortable, too. I don’t know if I’ll ever leave the Expy Gang.

We have a 2025 Ford expedition king ranch not ext wheel base. Purchase in 7/2025. After having my second child only 15 months apart I wanted a car that could grow with us and give us enough room for our lifestyle. We travel 2-3 weekends a month and need to transport 2 large dogs with us. I’ve loved having the captains chairs to be able to crawl into the back to buckle kids in and have them crawl through with plenty of space to navigate. The seats are so comfortable and spacious. It feels very luxe but also very sporty. I can whip it around town very easily and also feel comfortable taking it off road. The technology with the double screens has come in so handy! When my kids want to see the car play screen I can still use the upper screen for navigation. I’ve had a few bugs with the updates but other than that no issues at all!

I purchased my Ford Expedition Max in 2024 when I welcomed my 3rd child and knew I wanted a bench seat to seat all 3 kids across. After hearing Kelly rave about the expedition on social media and her podcast, Ford was an easy choice. I ended up special ordering my Ford, which was a very simple process and relatively quick (10 week), because I was having a difficult time finding an expedition with a bench seat! Having twins and a new baby I knew I wanted them 3 across because I did not want one child to have to be in the 3rd row. Plus, our family very frequently has the 3rd row down for sports, beach days, costco trips and more and we use all of the rear storage! I couldn't imagine always having to put one child in the back and having to always have my 3rd row seats up - I'm team bench all the way!! Loading my 3 kids in and out of the expedition is a breeze. I can very easily get into the 2nd row to buckle any kids that need help, I'm shorter and I can almost stand up more straight and move around back there! The car seat tilt is very handy if you have 3rd row passengers and the few times I've ridden in the 3rd row I am always shocked at how spacious it is back there. There are plenty of air vents where I need them and all the safety and technology features I could need. I ordered the "wild green" color and I love it, Ford discontinued the color after 2024 and I've only seen 2 others on the road. I almost went with the regular expedition but my husband pushed me the get the Max and I'm glad we did. It's easier to pack the entire rear of the car for road trips and even with passengers in the 3rd row there is plenty of storage. It's a large car to drive but we're a larger family and its comfortable and spacious for our needs. Gas mileage isn't too shabby (16.5-17mpg) but it could take some practice to park. I only wish I could have waited to get the more stylish newer model - but maybe next car I'll upgrade!

OBSESSED with my Expedition! Suites my life so well with two young kids, with lots of room to grow. The car seat friendliness of this car is unbelievable. Kelly wasn’t lying, the second row bench is amazing. I mostly leave the third row down for max trunk space. I don’t think I could ever drive anything else!

The Expedition Max is the best full size SUV! I love the bench seat in the middle, especially since each seat is separate. I can fold any of the three seats down. There’s lot of leg room and cargo space. It’s easy to drive - it doesn’t feel as big as it actually is. It’s been great for my three boys as they are getting older.

Love the interior space! This is our go to rental vehicle when traveling. The Max easily fits our luggage and double umbrella stroller. And I know that I’ll be able to easily install two Wayb Picos and a booster seat! We typically put one Pico in the second row captain chair and the other in the third row with the booster. The only negative is the overall size - it’s a lot to park and a lot to drive through smaller parking garages.

We recently upgraded our 2019 Ford Expedition for a 2025 Ford Expedition. I’m loving all of the new upgrades and the sleek exterior of the vehicle. We got a great deal on a King Ranch edition. We only have 2 kids but we do quite a bit of towing (boat and side-by-side), these vehicles handle the towing no problem! We are also big into sports and I have plenty on trunk space for all our gear and needs. It’s a very comfortable vehicle to drive and the car seat setup can’t be beat!

This car is perfect for our family of 5 (plus our dog). Obviously a beast in size and the interior design meets all of our families needs. Our car seat setup is working great for our kids ranging from 4 to 2 months with our oldest in her car seat in the third row and the younger 2 in car seats in the middle captains seats.

This vehicle is great for moms of multiples who travel a lot with kids. There is plenty of trunk space for packing items and all the sports equipment! I enjoy the ease of the 3td row access and the easy ability to move car seats and install with the latches in multiple places. We enjoy the option of having WiFi in the car for the kids to have tablet entertainment on long rides. There are an abundance of cup holders in the vehicle as well. The seats are comfortable with plenty of leg room in the bucket seats in the 2nd row. We enjoy the heating and cooling seats and the heated steering wheel features. There are plenty of options for plug ins for charging with the USB and C charger. I enjoy CarPlay hooking up to my iphone for listening to music and navigation.

Purchased based off of the car Mom’s reviews and tour and couldn’t be happier (unless they got rid of the black tailgate 😬). Fantastic for multiple car seats, both rear facing and forward facing AND is such a good looking car! School Drop off is a breeze. My 5 year old and 7 year old can safely open/close the doors and use the car seat tilt to access the third row. Having multiple options for the kids to move through the cabin to unload feels like such a luxury. The technology is great, although I never have my avg mpg toggled on - to protect my sanity 😬 The dashboard is easy to navigate and doesn’t feel excessive. A big plus is the Ford App which is simple but has everything you need! I absolutely love and recommend this car to families with multiple children. The only two tiny changes I would make are with the passenger door cup holders (or lack there of) and the driver memory settings have not been as easy to use as the Palisade.

Loved this car for so many reasons! But this particular year has come with some quirky issues — the foot gates get stuck and won’t go down all the time. And the engine turns over and makes the car lurch when I’m stopped before I hit the gas again. I think these issues are perhaps specific to the year I have though. It’s functioned well for our family and the max has allowed for plenty of space for roadtrips!

Rented a 2022 XLT for a roadtrip. It was not the extended version and so the trunk space was not sufficient for a family of 5. We had to use the extra space inside the car for the extra luggage. However, it drove great and was a smooth ride. I really liked it. Would rent again but would opt for the extended version with extra trunk space.

I couldn’t love this vehicle any more than I already do! ❤️ The Ford Expedition Max has truly been the perfect vehicle for our family. I absolutely love the body style, the three-across bench in the second row, and just how incredibly comfortable it is. The amount of space is a game changer, especially with three kids. There’s plenty of room for everyone without feeling cramped, and the Max gives us all the cargo space we could possibly need. Whether we’re loading up for a weekend away, packing the stroller and all the kids’ things, or taking a long road trip, there is room for it all (Even our 110 lb Golden Retriever 🐕)! And speaking of road trips—the comfort is one of my favorite things about it. The spacious interior, comfortable seating, smooth ride, and extra legroom make long drives so much easier. I love that the kids have room, while we still have plenty of space for luggage and everything else we inevitably bring along. I also love that it feels like a big family SUV without sacrificing style. It’s roomy and practical, but still looks sleek and drives so nicely. After having three kids, I’ve become all about finding something that makes everyday life easier, and this vehicle checks every box for us. The Ford Expedition Max has the space, comfort, functionality, and road-trip capability our family needs—and I genuinely don’t know how I’d go back to anything smaller! 🤍

We purchased a 2023 Ford expedition almost a year ago. Before that I drove an 2021 expedition max. I really love the 2023 Ford expedition. I love the sporty look of the exterior, and the quality and look of the interior as well. We have the stealth package, which I absolutely love. If you’re looking for tons of trunk space, you would definitely want to get the expedition max, as the regular expedition has very little trunk space when the third row is up. I always have my second and third row up because I have four kids. The only way we make it work is because my husband now drives our expedition max and when we are all together as a family, we always take the max which provides plenty of trunk space and room for everyone. It’s a very nice ride, and the screen is huge which I love. Things I don’t love: I wish the climate control had actual buttons and wasn’t controlled from the screen. I’ve also noticed that the transmission can be very jerky? Which I have read can be a common thing with the expedition. I’ve had it looked at, and we haven’t had any other issues, but I believe it’s something with the technology behind the transmission? Overall, I love this car.

My Ford Expedition is the best mom car! It’s perfect for my 3 kids and our dogs love it too! We have room for everything and everyone. I feel very safe driving it and it is easy to park for how large it is. The blue cruise is a nice tool for long drives. The light grey seats are easy to wipe clean and make the space feel clean, light, and roomy. Overall, this is a great family car!

This is a Fantastic car for our family. We have the buckets seats and our kids can move around freely and easily between them for any school/sports pick up and drop off. It’s very easy to install a car seat in any of 2nd or 3rd row seats. There is not a whole lot I do not like about the car.

Love the functionality of the second row bench with car seat tilt, three independent seats, and lower anchor and tether placement. Front upholders are prone to falling down. Transmission has a hard shift at times and is delayed coming out of park.

We decided to buy the Expedition Max right before having our third child. We wanted easy access to the third row, and we went for the captain’s seats. We love it! When we had our fourth, it was a seamless transition. We always need all three rows and storage in the trunk, so this size vehicle really works for our family, not just now with car seats, but hopefully for the foreseeable future!

We recently bought this car as we are expecting our third child. We will have 3 kids in car seats so we went with a bench seat over captains chairs. It perfectly fits 3 across with one infant seat, one rear facing and one forward facing. The second and third row leg room is the best in class. The one thing I’ve found in this car that I don’t love is the oval shaped steering wheel. It just feels unnatural and I do feel like it affects the way the car turns. It doesn’t feel as smooth. I also don’t love the controls on the steering wheel. It takes some time to get used to. I have to look down to be sure I am hitting the right button versus an actual button just being able to feel it prevents me from having to look down.

I adore this newly redesigned Expedition Max. The tech in this car is amazing. The new split rear hatch is a game changer for loading and unloading. My kiddos are all out of car seats but I know this vehicle is a car seat machine. The car seat tilt makes third row access a breeze. The ride is so comfortable, and don’t be afraid of the “weird” steering wheel shape. It took me a day to get used to and I love it.

This expedition is so great! We were patient and found a low mileage used car that had enough bells and whistles but wasn’t too fancy. Bench in the 2nd row is great for the multiple 12 hour road trips we take a year! Looking to upgrade in the next 6 months and will be buying another expedition!

We love our Expedition for our large and very active family. We have the max and never have an issue with trunk space and our children are always comfortable. We have two in car seats and have a lot of flexibility due to the latch and lower anchor options. Even though it's a huge car, the cameras make it easy to drive and park. My only complaint is that the automatically folding running boards can get stuck if they're not serviced (especially after a New England winter) and sometimes I have trouble connecting to Apple Car Play. We will absolutely get another Expedition down the road as long as we still have kids at home.

Have three kids heavily involved in sports and we love the Max. We can get all three kids in the car and put down 2/3 of the back row to fit all their equipment. The seats are so comfortable and we all have so much room. My only qualm is the air conditioner panel is also on the very large screen and I wish it was not.

I previously owned cars that had better tech and looked a lot more stylish. However, for me, the flexibility the Expedition gives my family to travel short trips regularly or long trips occasionally is worth a little more dated tech. My expedition (XLT - base model with a package) includes almost the safety features my fully loaded cars had before (minus rear view camera mirror). My husband loves it, too!

I have a definite love/hate relationship with my Expedition MAX. I bought it used with only 12,000 miles on it, and it was still under warranty. After just a few drives, I knew something wasn’t right. My Expedition spent quite a bit of time at the dealership, which was a HUGE headache, but thankfully, everything was covered under warranty. In the end, it ended up getting a new transmission and cam phasers. Despite the mechanical issues, I absolutely LOVE this vehicle. The space is everything! I have three kids—7, 8, and 9. Having the second-row bench with the extra seat is 100% worth the hype. Being able to comfortably fit three kids across the second row has been a game changer. For boosters, we currently use the Chicco GoFit ClearTex Plus Backless Booster Seat with LATCH. Unfortunately, I don’t think it’s a great fit in the Expedition. My older kids often have a hard time buckling themselves because of how the seatbelt sits. My other child is in a Graco SlimFit, and I have no complaints with the install of that seat. At one point, we were able to fit three across the second row with two Graco SlimFits and one Chicco MyFit. Two of my biggest complaints about the Expedition is the air conditioning and the third row not having speakers. The air doesn’t seem to blow very hard unless it’s on full blast. My child that sits in the back is often asking me to turn the radio up so he can hear; which is so frustrating because I don’t like the radio blasting. I’m always changing the “fade” to put the sound to the middle speakers. Other than that, the ride is incredibly smooth, and it’s surprisingly easy to maneuver for such a large SUV. The amount of space, especially with three kids, is hard to beat. So overall… mechanically, it’s given me some headaches, but as a family vehicle, I really do love it.

This is my second Expedition. As a mom of three, I can’t imagine driving anything else for a very long time! I love this vehicle, it is so comfortable and I feel very in control driving it. The only “complaint” I have is after driving a 2022 year model, the more screen and less button/knob is a little frustrating for functions such as air controls, but I’m sure we will get used to it! The comfort and drive is unmatched.

We have absolutely loved this car. We have a 2021 Ford Expedition Max with the bench seat. We have 3 under 3 and the car seat tilt feature to get to the third row was a must. This makes getting to the third row assessable from both sides of the car. Also a must was the big, flat trunk. Everyone talks about how we need to get minivans but I don’t need cubic feet space in a trunk, I need square footage space where I can fit my big Zoe triple stroller, groceries, and all of my bags with their extra clothes and diapers. The trunk is my home base when I have all three babies by myself. I can do diaper changes and outfit changes while sitting the other two in the trunk next to me so I have eyes on everyone and then I can load them up into their car seats from there. It is a life saver. As for the functionality of the car, we love it and plan to drive this car as long as we can. We purchased our car used and it has now crossed the 100,000 mark. We have had no issues and everything runs smoothly. There is plenty of room in the second and third row for adults to sit in between or next to car seats. When my in laws are in town we all load up and can take one car. For 3 under 3 the car seat tilt and big trunk was what won us over with this car!

We love having the Max for our fam with 3 kids under 6. The bench with each seat moveable independently is great for allowing some leg room in the 3rd row or allowing my 6’2” husband fit in both front seats. We previously had a 2021 Highlander and he didn’t fit in the passenger seat comfortably that had a rear facing Cybex Sirona S behind it. We currently have a Joie Mint in the middle seat (due to arguing older siblings), and can pass it past a booster without much struggle. We love skiing and camping, so the Max trunk gives us room for all the activities and things!

I’m absolutely obsessed with this car! It’s so easy to get my 3 kiddos in and out. The clearance with rear facing seats is top notch. The split tailgate is a gamechanger. I love how it drives—very smooth (more so than our 2023 Sequoia) and quiet. The blue cruise is super convenient. I think my only complaint is that the technology is lacking. They included these two huge screens and I feel like the top screen leaves a lot to be desired. It shows you your speed and the map (which is also shown on the main screen). I feel like there is so much more they could have displayed up there! My only other complaint is the gas mileage, but I came from driving a hybrid so I knew what I was getting into. But other than that I truly love it. We will be keeping this car for a long time!

We have the Max and we love it! It has an amazing turning radius and doesn’t feel like a boat! Fits our middle schooler well. We are a lacrosse family and we need space for gear! And my boys play the upright bass and cello - so need room for that! It’s one of my favorite cars ever! We have the captains seats and I prefer that to the bench for our older kids and every day 3rd row access.

We went into car shopping needing something big enough for my large blue collar husband. And this ticked the boxes. It had the head space he was needing in the front but also the second row. It is the perfect family road trip suv. It fits everything needed while not feeling cramped. My husband (who is a ford hater - because all of his work trucks have only ever been fords) even commented that he loves the car and it’s the perfect size for our family. The only thing I wish it has was a touch more technology it’s a little basic when it comes to that but also at the same time the more you have the more that can break.

We landed on the expedition tremor with a bench when we found out twins would be joining us, making us a family of 5. The second row bench has 3 full size seats which made car seat configuration a dream. There was no need to search for the slimmest seat or get a new seat for my oldest. We easily fit a convertible seat with 2 buckets seats, and now have a FF, convertible, & bucket seat. The vents, the tech, the power, the space, the size all make it my dream car as a mom. Recently we went on a road trip and put the oldest in the 3rd row, i sat between the twins and there was SO much space for all of us and i could tend to everyone’s needs on the drive. You simply can’t ask for more! What other car has a second row middle seat that is THAT comfortable

Although I love my expedition, its only downfall is that I’ve had 1 full transmission change and 3 transmission repairs (within warranty). If it wasn’t for fords transmission problems it would be the perfect car for my family.

I honestly thought I would be skeptical with all the technology, but I LOVE it! The seats are incredibly comfortable, especially compared to other full-size SUVs. It’s so spacious, and the split tailgate is a total game changer. I also love the shape of the steering wheel, it makes it feel so easy and comfortable to drive!

wow! If you want a big car if your budget allows it, this is an amazing car(okay. It's not really a car but an SUV )My best friend has this car so I've rode in it many times. This SUV is luxury. It has space. It has all the bells and whistles. It has room for activities. It just feels like a vacation when you're riding in it. Besides the amount of screaming kids that it can hold in the back. So maybe if you want to benefit vacation, get a babysitter and go test drive this beast you will not be disappointed.

As a mom of 2 littles and a former car sales person, the Expedition is THE car for moms with kids. As a sales persons for several years, I always thought bucket seats would be the best with kids & I was so wrong. The 2nd row bench allows for so much car seat versatility and accessibility to the kids. After selling cars and seeing the technology and screens in various vehicle's, the Ford system is by far the best. It does not lag and is very easy to navigate. You can not go wrong with this vehicle. I can’t say enough good things about it.

I’ve loved my expedition! It was not a big adjustment to get used to driving it after being in a midsize suv for most of my life. I don’t know if this is unique to just mine, but it has had some computer issues. That’s my only complaint!

The functionality for 4 kids is amazing. We have two 5 yr olds in third row and a 3yr old FF on 2nd row middle seat and infant seat on second row outboard seat. The car seat tilt is great for third row access. I like how you can slide each second row seat forward and back for different access/cargo space/leg room. Overall we would repurchase this car and you can’t beat the functionality! Let me point out the flaws and trouble spots we’ve noticed in case they are a dealbreaker for you! I have the Max, so I do aim on parking toward the back of parking lots. The drive is good, but the transmission is clunky and sometimes I’m wondering if I’ll find myself on the side of the road. The tech is so/so. The tvs on the back of the headrests are glitchy, the entertainment system is a bit frustrating at time trying to get CarPlay to pull up. Currently dealing with an issue with zero sensors working. The side steps also sometimes go in and don’t come back down when you open the doors. To control the passenger air, there’s a separate button on the console to switch to it and you have to press buttons on the screen, which is super tedious and frustrating. With the second row bench seat, my toddler in the middle seat can reach her foot to the passenger console controls and if she kicks it, it will crank the radio volume up and down, mess with the climate control. In the third row seating, on the columns next to the outboard seats there are buttons to set the third row seats at 2 different recline angles. My 5 year olds are able to touch these and they are able to reach and change position with car seats installed, causing the tether anchors to loosen. So it’s something that could be a major safety issue if you aren’t constantly checking and have kiddos that like to press buttons.

I love this car and bought it after watching a LOT of car mom reviews. Mine is an XLT with the max towing package to include the 360 camera. This was a non negotiable for me and I cannot imagine not having the camera in a car this large. I had a Toyota Highlander before and the third row was way too small for my older two to use, and I knew our youngest would outgrow it soon. No regrets, it’s a very comfortable car when waiting for practices to end and we have enough space for our family of 5 on weeklong vacations. It has everything that I wanted in an SUV without a bunch of features I didn’t need too.

Great for 3 across in a bench. All 3 of my children are rear facing and I have enough room to get in the back to buckle everyone in. Love the ceiling vents. This car is well functioning for the stage of life we are in and for my children. But for me I dislike it. I’m 5’1 and it’s too big, too tall, too long. We have the extended version so it’s just feels like I’m driving a bus. I also dislike how it drives, it’s not smooth. It’s bumpy, like a pick up truck.

Love this car! We did purchase used, but were told it only had one owner before us. We drive a lot and it has caused us no issues. My husband was adamant about getting a max and I will say I do enjoy all the extra space. We travel with our children often and we never have to worry about everything fitting. I also sit in the third row often to entertain our little ones on longer trips and it's pretty comfortable! I love that I don't have to worry about the kids getting plenty of air back there with this summer heat! I personally don't feel like I'll ever want to drive another car other than the expedition now!

Love the way this car drives! Even though some may think the screws are a lot, I think it looks so sleek and they are easy to function. The different shaped steering wheel is easy to get used to. My 3 kids have plenty of space and our car seats all fit perfect. The absolute best part for last is the split tailgate!!!!

I wish I would have purchased sooner! We have 3 kids involved in sports, swap car pool, travel, have dogs, and just enjoy larger space. We came from 3 across in car seats in a Toyota 4Runner to the Expedition Max. We went with the bucket seats for ease of access to the 3rd row. 1 kiddo is in a convertible car seat and the others are in backless boosters. I’ve had as many as 5 child seats in the car at one time. But, the headrests on the 3rd row can’t be removed. The ‘22 Limited screen is quite obnoxiously large with most controls being touch screen. If I had to change one thing it would be a smaller screen and actual knobs for climate control and radio. It is a gas guzzler but the tank is also larger so you don’t have the fill up as much. Lastly, we live in the south and I hated to get black interior but the options were limited. It’s quite manageable with the exterior being white and just keeping the sunroof closed. The cup holders are plentiful and the AC seats are a need now that I have them. The 360 camera is something I didn’t know I needed but I’m so thankful to have it as the car does drive differently than your standard mid size or full size since the wheel base is longer. You can check your surroundings and make sure your parking job is straight. Overall, I’d buy it again in heart beat!

Three Kids. Three Car Seats. Zero Minivans. Zero Regrets. I found this unicorn two years ago and have loved it ever since! I am OBSESSED with my 2022 Ford Expedition. Truly. This is hands-down the best mom car for moms who need all the space but refuse to drive a minivan (don’t come at me, we all have our reasons). I have three kids in car seats (ages 4, 3 & 10 months), and the second-row bench is absolutely perfect. Three car seats fit, everyone has their own space, and I can still get to the kids when someone inevitably drops their snack, loses their shoe, or needs a drink—which is, of course, always an emergency. Don’t get me going about the cupholder convenience and ceiling vents in this baby. The third row is actually usable, the cargo space is HUGE, and I can haul kids, strollers, the dog, another stroller, groceries, and approximately 47 random things my children bring in the car with them. But what I love most is that it gives me everything I need in a family vehicle without feeling like I had to surrender my identity to motherhood. It’s roomy, comfortable, drives great, and I still feel like a badass mom in the driver’s seat. The ONLY thing that would make the Expedition that much better is a built-in vacuum, but seriously—why isn’t that standard in every vehicle?? 10/10 would buy again—and will be devastated when I eventually have to give this vehicle up.

Have had it for 2.5 years with now 2 kids and a large dog and we still love it! Of the full size SUVs I test drove at the time (2024) it felt the best to me. Others felt like tanks and I didn’t have the best visibility from the drivers seat and I’m tall. I’ve never felt like that in my Expedition. The interior design/storage is elite. We’re a tall family and there’s leg room for days in every row, even with rear facing car seats. At long as I have kids in car seats in the South, ceiling vents are a must and this car delivers. Seriously, no regrets. Just wish the body style wouldn’t have changed after I bought it new.

The Expedition is a great family car. You can easily maneuver the day to day with 3 kids in this car. You have a big 2nd row bench that can easily fit 3 car seats/boosters across. The car seat tilt makes access to the 3rd row very easy. The 3rd row leg room is great. My 6’ 3” BIL can fit back there easily. And an added perk of multiple cup holders throughout the car especially 4 in the center console. We also can tow our camper with the vehicle with ease. For the back we can fit a stroller and a few suitcases easily. I couldn’t recommend this vehicle more!

I seriously LOVE this car. I went from a Ford Explorer and downsized to a BMW x1, then discovered I was pregnant with baby #2. Drove that for a few years and decided I couldn’t take it anymore. I loved my explorer but debated if I wanted something bigger. Went to test drive one and they rolled out the expedition instead and I said wow, that’s a hottttt mom car. My husband test drove it and almost couldn't contain his excitement because he knew this is what I’d been looking for. I got in and just immediately fell in love. She’s sleek on the outside and inside. Leather seats with cool/heated seats, heated steering wheel, CEILING VENTS!!! (My absolute MUST) it’s the perfect size for my family of 4 (plus our doggo occasionally) I couldn’t recommend this car enough!

We’ve really enjoyed our Ford Expedition Platinum. I despised the large screen initially but it’s grown on me and now I don’t know if I could go back (although a knob for the AC/heat would be ideal). Cupholders and storage galore. We have captains chairs with two kids which is good for now but would definitely prefer the bench with the hope of growing our family and on long car trips to seat between the kids. We love the brown leather. The drive is smooth, solid turn radius and not overwhelming (although I drove a truck before so that’s my baseline). I’ve recommended this car to EVERY mom friend of mine.

Overall I love my expedition Max. It handles very well. It is easy to see out of. The way the second row seats tilt helps so much with accessing the 3rd row when you have car seats in. I love the tailgate and all of the room behind the 3rd row seat. Comparing the expedition to a suburban or Yukon I do prefer the look of those, but so far this car has been more reliable than my previous Yukon xls.

The expedition is the perfect mom car for the mom who wants to feel sporty, safe and spacious while driving. I LOVE this car. It’s comfortable for everyone, including a full sized adult in the third row. The options for the second row are stellar either way but I have captains chairs which makes the car feel even more specious and has given me the opportunity to customize seat settings for each of my kids chairs separately. We have two Nuna Rava car seats which keep our kids comfy and work perfectly in the expedition. Our technology as far as driving assist is not amazing but also not a necessity for us. I came into this car from a Toyota Camry and thinking I was a Toyota girl for life but I am a full convert because I never want anything but my expedition now.

All moms regardless of how many kids they have should consider the Expedition! I upgraded from a Grand Highlander to the Expedition and wish I had just gotten the Expedition in the first place! In my opinion it does not drive like a truck- it truly feels like an SUV. The drivers seat is comfortable with plenty of space. I love that the center console can move forward and backward- the storage space underneath is perfect for storing diapers, wipes, spare clothes, etc. The second row bench is wide and easily fits 3 people or car seats across- and is even comfy for a mom sitting in the middle between 2 car seats! The third row also offers enough space or kids or adults to sit, and with the 3rd row up there’s space for a stroller and whatever else needs to be hauled. I have the “base” model with the technology package and am super impressed with the technology- phone and CarPlay sync easily, I LOVE Google Gemini for voice commands (and so do my kids haha).

Bottom line up front: I love my expedition, and I plan on buying another (used) one. I have a 2021 Ford Expedition Max Limited with a bench seat. I have a 3 and a 4 year old with another baby due early 2027. Pros: sooo much room. I love driving a big car, I love having a giant trunk. I’m not currently in a stroller phase but I can fit my double jogging stroller plus all my groceries. We also use the trunk for picnics all the time. So far we’ve only used the third row a couple times for people but I plan to with older kids. I plan to do three across in the second row, there is so much room, I can basically walk in front of my kids’ legs when they’re buckled. The middle seat in second row is spacious - I’m not really cramped when I sit back there. I have electric running boards which I couldn’t live without, I use them to buckle my kids every day, and they can also get into the car themselves. Cons: I’ve had a smattering of mechanical issues. My car was a rental vehicle until 75,000 when I purchased it, so while it had regular maintenance it likely wasn’t super thorough. I got a new catalytic converter, and my transmission isn’t 100% right, and I think the AC has a leak - all things I’ve found workarounds for (luckily easier with a mechanically-minded husband). My year still has a small infotainment screen, and I wish my trim level had a 360° camera option (useful for drive-through and tight parking spaces). The exterior design leaves a bit to be desired but I honestly don’t care, I love my car so much. Recap: love love love. So spacious. I love a big car. I feel safe driving it. My kids can get in and out by themselves. I’d love to get a 2026 in another year or two, hopefully lower miles so I can keep it longer!

I got my car (Limited with the bench seat) because of Kelly! By far my favorite mom car I've owned. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about it. I am looking at another one and I had a Ford Explorer before this. I have so I don't use the third row every day but now that they are in school and having friends go places with us, it has been great. Thank you Kelly for influencing me! I recommend an Expedition to everyone.

I absolutely love this car. My husband is 6’4”, and it was getting hard for him to drive our Explorer with a car seat safely behind him. Our son is also in the 99th percentile, because apparently everyone in this family was personally selected to require more legroom. 😂 When we found out we were expecting our daughter, we knew we needed something bigger. Between two kids, two dogs, car seats, strollers, luggage, and the absolutely ridiculous amount of crap—I mean essential belongings—we somehow haul everywhere we go, the Explorer was starting to feel a little too cozy. We also HAD to have a bench seat. We made the bucket-seat mistake in the Explorer, and let me tell you… big regrets. I knew I’d be sitting in the back with the kids on long road trips, and being able to actually get back there without performing an Olympic-level obstacle course is a huge plus. This Expedition is incredibly comfortable and somehow manages to fit our entire family and everything we apparently cannot survive without bringing with us. We travel often with our kids and our two dogs, and there is finally ROOM. Actual, glorious room. And it’s beautiful! I am constantly telling my husband how much I love this car, which I’m sure he finds completely normal and not at all concerning. The interior was honestly one of the biggest surprises. It’s this gorgeous Merlot interior that I don’t even know the official name of. If you had asked me to design my dream Expedition from scratch, I probably would NOT have picked it—but WOW. Pictures truly do not do it justice. It is absolutely beautiful. I honestly love everything about this vehicle. The comfort, the space, the looks, all of it. At this point, I genuinely don’t understand how families go any smaller. Two kids, two dogs, one very tall husband, one giant toddler, and approximately 47 bags for every outing have completely ruined smaller vehicles for me.

My Expedition Max drives like a DREAM and I love the technology and configuration options in the second and third rows. The trunk space is a 10/10. My only issues with it have been the transmission at 95k miles which was covered under the Ford Gold Certified warranty and recently the AC went out which was a pretty penny! Even with those issues I cant see myself driving anything other than an Expedition while my 3 kids are young!…..But dont sleep on that Ford Gold Certified warranty!

I love my Expedition Max, even if it’s way more space than I need on a normal day! Overall, it’s been a great vehicle. The ride is smooth, I love sitting up high, and there’s plenty of room for everyone. It hasn’t been completely problem-free, though. The factory wheels were defective and the paint ended up peeling… twice. I eventually replaced them with much cooler wheels and tires that fit my “off-road mom” aesthetic way better anyway. Then there was the transmission. Thankfully, I bought the warranty because the entire transmission ended up needing to be replaced. Since then, it’s been running much better! Even with those issues, I really do love my Expedition Max. One of my favorite things is having enough space to bring the grandparents along whenever we want without having to think twice about room.

I love my Expedition Max! I was previously driving a 2023 Toyota Sienna which was super convenient with twin toddlers but I wanted more space and had been looking at the Expeditions based on The Car Mom reviews. The split tailgate is a great feature (when I pick up grocery orders I almost always get comments on it!) and I personally love the black back panel with the contrast of the white paint. My only regret is not getting the second row bench.

My dream mom car. 😍 We bought “Big Bertha” as a family of four. We knew we wanted this to last us for as long as possible, and we knew we would be growing our family. My husband is 6’4, and my children are tall as well, so maximum legroom and comfort was necessary! We went with the 2022 Limited Max version for the technology upgrades, extended trunk space, and the beautiful style/color was just a plus. 😍 Pros- cup holders, comfort, space, reliability. Cons- captain’s chairs, sunroof makes a rattling sound (supposedly this is a problem amongst many) 👎🏼

I went from a 2021 GMC Yukon Denali to a brand new 2026 Ford Expedition Platinum and I absolutely love it. It drives and handles so smooth. I opted for the regular size vs the Max. There are days when I wish I had the MAX but I didn’t lose space so it was more of a want vs need at this stage. There are only 2 things I miss about my Yukon. 1)The review mirror camera; 2)the cubby space under the handles on the driver and passenger doors (chapstick holders ☺️) Overall, I love everything about my Expedition. The split tailgate is awesome, the seats are comfortable, it drives like a dream, is functional and looks very sharp.

I have 4 kids, 5 & under in my ‘24 max. 2 older kids are currently forward facing in 3rd row, in diono Radians. My 2 year old is in the same seat, rear facing, middle row (plenty of room behind the seat, even my beach wagon sits behind the seat. My 4 month old is in a Graco baseless seat, on the outboard side. This frees 3 adult passenger seats when my kids arent in the car, with amble leg room. Disclaimer is the transmission was replaced at 65k. This was a certified used car that I knew had been a rental prior to us purchasing. Cdf bearing, drive shaft, and trans cooler were all replaced (under ford warranty with no fee to me). I could feel the car shifting hard and brought it to the shop, it never faulted out on me (though when they plugged it in there was an “incorrect ratio” fault). Ford never questioned the warranty work. We have traveled 15k miles in under a year because my husband likes my expedition so much more than his f-250 for trips longer than to town (40 min away). We own a dairy farm and have transported tractor doors, windows, and various other pieces in the trunk with no compromise to passenger space. While traveling for a week at the beach, we did install a thule on the top of the vehicle.

This car in my opinion, is the greatest 7 passenger vehicle on the market. You just can’t beat the space in the 2nd and 3rd row. I never run into an issue of not being able to transport the number of people or cargo that I need to. We are only a family of 4, but live far away from our families so we spend a lot of time in the car traveling. The car seat setup is *chefs kiss* incredible. We can comfortably seat 7 in our car, even with 2 forward facing car seats. My only issue with this car is the full touch dash. I would LOVE to have the climate controls pulled into buttons. When it’s really hot and you’re in a rush, you can’t change the air conditioning if the car is in reverse. I almost considered going down a trim level just to have buttons, but loves the exterior look of the limited (mostly just a difference in rims). I don’t know if I would ever buy another vehicle that’s not an expedition, at least not while my kids are still at home!

My Ford Expedition Max has a beautiful exterior and is a workhorse! Need to tow? Done. Family road trip? Done. Random Marketplace furniture pick up? Done. I continue to be impressed with the capabilities and family friendly features of this vehicle. It also helps that the Expedition is a beautiful SUV. When I drive it I feel like a fancy momma getting things done.

The expedition is the perfect family car! It’s large and comfortable for all passengers without sacrificing performance. It’s is a large SUV so you’ll need to be comfortable maneuvering a large vehicle but it’s worth it! There are tons of cup holders, air vents everywhere for great circulation, and lots of car seat flexibility. The trunk space, even with the third row up, is generous. You’ll fit the whole family comfortably with all the day to day stuff (strollers, groceries, sports gear, you name it!).

Car Mom Review: 2021 Ford Expedition XLT We have a 2021 Ford Expedition XLT, and from a family-use standpoint, it is hard to beat. The biggest advantage is space. With two young kids in rear-facing car seats, everyone has room, the front seats don’t feel compromised, and there’s still plenty of cargo space for a stroller, bags, groceries, and all the random things that come with small children. It’s one of those vehicles where you don’t have to constantly think about whether everything will fit. It’s obviously a large SUV, but it’s surprisingly comfortable and easy to drive for its size. The visibility is good, the ride is comfortable, and it feels great for road trips or days when we’re hauling a lot of kid gear. For a family of four, it honestly gives us more room than we technically need, but that extra space is really nice to have. Where I struggle with recommending it wholeheartedly is the mechanical side. Our Expedition has had repeated transmission problems, including multiple transmission rebuilds, and it has also had an issue with the rear A/C evaporator. Thankfully we have an extended warranty, but the amount of time, inconvenience, and frustration involved has been significant. It’s especially disappointing because this is exactly the type of vehicle you buy expecting it to be a dependable long-term family hauler. Car Mom verdict: purely from a space, comfort, and family-function standpoint, I love the Expedition. It fits rear-facing seats beautifully, has tons of cargo room, and makes family travel incredibly easy. But our ownership experience has made me cautious about long-term reliability. I’d absolutely recommend the size and layout for a family, but I would strongly consider an extended warranty and go into ownership aware of the known transmission concerns. Would I choose an Expedition again based on functionality? Yes. Based on our mechanical experience? I’d have to think much harder about it.

This is my 3rd Expedition and each one is better than the previous. The 2025 had significant upgrades with new screens, increased CarPlay functionality, and comfort. The redesign with the Platinum package was a huge upgrade. It comfortably fits 3 boys, their friends and all of the baseball or golf gear. I also frequently have a German shepherd dog riding in the 3rd row. My favorite feature is the hidden compartment for my purse. I also love the split tailgate so groceries do not roll out.
