We bought our 2022 Chevy Suburban when we had two kids, and now that we’re expecting our third, I appreciate it even more. We originally chose it because we travel about five hours to visit my parents, and at the time we had two kids, two dogs (including a large dog), and a LOT of baby gear. Everything fit comfortably, which was exactly what we needed.
We have captain’s chairs and love them. Right now, we have one forward-facing and one rear-facing car seat in the second row. When the baby arrives, our oldest will move to the third row, with the infant seat behind the driver and our middle child rear-facing behind the passenger. We’ve never had an issue accessing the third row with car seats installed, and our oldest can climb back there independently. The space between the captain’s chairs is also useful for kid stuff and makes getting to the third row easy.
The third row is genuinely usable. We regularly have adults back there, and our parents can sit comfortably when we have extended family with us. We also use it for the dogs and, soon, three kids.
The cargo space is probably my favorite feature. With all three rows up, we can still fit a stroller, groceries, and bags (I’m an overpacker!). With the third row folded, there is an enormous amount of space. We’ve even hauled large Facebook Marketplace furniture finds that otherwise would have required a U-Haul.
It’s also just a really enjoyable vehicle to drive. It’s smooth, spacious, and I feel very safe and in control behind the wheel. I’ve driven it in the mountains and used four-wheel drive several times, and it handled it easily.
The gas mileage isn’t amazing, obviously, but the large tank means I can go a long time between fill-ups. My biggest complaints are the push-button gear selector, which took some getting used to, and wishing the seats had ventilation/cooling and more power adjustment.
It doesn’t have every luxury feature, but it has everything our family actually needs.
